Surprise Snow Storm Hits Philadelphia In Time For Morning Rush Hour

The 2011 winter from hell continues. Another snow storm has arrived just in time to cause chaos during the morning commute for residents in the Philadelphia region. Route 422 was backed up from Reading all the way down to King of Prussia. This storm caught everybody by surprise and began around 5:30 this morning. Major roadways were untreated and everybody left for work, which created a traffic disaster throughout the entire region.

PENNDOT should be criticized heavily over this. It is their job to keep an eye on weather for unexpected weather events and deploy crews as necessary. While it was expected the "big snow storm" wouldn't arrive until later Wednesday, there was a possibility of precipitation expected to start earlier today. Just so happens this storm was much worse than expected and blindsided us. The School District of Philadelphia and many other school districts have announced delays, cancellations, and early dismissals. Check out KYW1060 for the latest information on school delays, closing, and early dismissals. MyFoxPhilly also has a pretty comprehensive list for weather-related closings involving the Philadelphia School District and other schools throughout the entire area.

Obama Stresses Cooperation in State of the Union Address

President Obama's State of the Union Address stressed unity, both nationally and politically. In an unprecedented move, Republicans and Democrats were seated amongst each other unlike previous State of the Union Addresses when they occupied their respective sides of the room. Obama is being criticized by members of his own party for not bringing up gun control, but the top priorities right now for our nation are lowering unemployment and our debt.

Obama focused on solutions for both and it will require cooperation from both sides. It's a case of "damned if you do and damned if you don't." If he didn't spend enough time talking about how we can improve the employment situation and lower the national debt (through consolidating the Federal Government) then he'd be getting roasted for that. Being the President is the toughest job for good reason - especially in this era of The Great Recession. Right wing fanatic and Tea Party supporter Michele Bachmann had an extremely negative response to Obama's State of the Union Address. But, then again Obama could cure cancer, cause unemployment to drop to 1% and Michele Bachmann would still find something to complain about.

Another Snow Storm Ready to Hit Philadelphia Area

Yet another storm is coming to town today. This one is expected to deliver 5 to 10 inches tonight around Philadelphia and 4 to 8 inches north and west of the city. And, in typical fashion the worst of the storm will hit overnight and end just in time tomorrow morning. Raise you're hand if you're tired of wasting a 1/2 vacation day with these nuisance storms. Fox 29's John Bolaris told 93.3 WMMR's Preston and Steve that he expects a foot or more in some areas north and west of the city. And, guess what? The storm will end just before we are "expected" to go to work tomorrow morning. We just can't catch a break this winter.
