Eagles spanked by Dallas Cowboys: The Morning After

"Bookmark

Morning campers,

Before we get to getting, I have to take this opportunity, belated as it may be – to thank every veteran of every branch of the military. Really, is there anybody more important than those who provide and preserve our freedom?

Didn’t think so.

Far as am I’m concerned, we should thank veterans EVERY day. But that of course would not be very PC to some, so we can’t have that.

Ok, time to get to getting.

FOR OPENERS…
Great, efficient, methodical opening drive culminating in just a phenomenal touchdown catch. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what team I was watching as it unfolded.

Of course, on the ensuing drive, the Eagles defense once again showed why they may be the worst-tackling defense in the history of the sport, as the ‘Boys marched right down the field with little resistance and tied the score at 7.

And naturally, on their next possession, the Eagles offense proceeds to revert back to the Eagles offense we know and loathe.

NICK OF TIME…

The whole free world knew that Nick Foles’ first play in a regular season game would be a run, right? Of course we did. And of course, the Cowboys defense did too. Which is why when the two headed monster of Andy & Marty called the play, we all knew what was coming- and it went for zero yards.

Would it kill them to zag when the whole world knows they’re going to zig?

CAN ANYONE TELL ME…?

*Why the Eagles did not use a timeout at the end of the first half? They would have had the ball with more than a minute to go with one timeout had they elected to use one. I know, as Troy Aikman said, there was a rookie QB in Foles so asking him to drive the team to a score with a minute and change may have been too much to ask but… I just hate “playing scared.”

*On the possession right before the half, the Eagles offense went from defensive (running the clock out) to offensive (trying to move the ball down the field) on the same possession?!?!?! Are you kidding me? Jeezus, how much more proof do we need that Andy Reid is completely inept as a game day and in-game coach??

*Why we were subjected to so many showings of the Pepsi/Kelly Clarkson Cowboys fan love video/TV commercial? Oh yeah, cause Pepsi said so. And what, can’t Will Smith or even a Frank Stallone make an Eagles one? Maybe the Hooters?Frank Stallone photo: lastfm.com

*How there possibly can’t be anyone better on the planet better than Demetrius Bell and King Dunlap?  You seriously cannot tell me there’s not some guy either on someone else’s practice squad or walking the streets who’s not better than either of these stiffs. And speaking of Bell, at one point Troy Aikman said what can be considered the single most redundant statement in the history of the English language: “Demetrius Bell was out of position.”

*Has there ever been a more overrated pair of players on one Philly team at the same time as Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha?

*How the Cowboys’ second TD was allowed to stand? For a second, I thought I was watching the replacement officials for that call, and subsequent upholding was horrifically bad.

*When the Eagles will get a real, honest-to-goodness return game?

*Why the Eagles didn’t throw EVERY pass to whomever Cowboys DB Morris Claiborne was covering? Ok, maybe not EVERY pass, but every other?

*Why was DeSean Jackson not in the game to return the punt in the 4th Q? Not at the very end but the punt before that. If the Cowboys punt it away from him, fine. But why not at the very least put him to try and catch a little magic? Why? Because (former) Eagles Special Teams Coordinator Bobby April is clueless… or if he had the idea to do this and was vetoed by Andy Reid then they’re both idiots.

*Why we keep watching the Eagles? We’re talking 3+ hours of our lives that we will never get back and for what? To keep having our hearts ripped out? Because we enjoy pain? We enjoy watching our once beloved franchise being driven into the ground like some tent spike?

Why do you keep watching?

You know what?

I could go on but I won’t. And quite frankly I don’t want to.

I am done. I am beyond done.

‘Til next time… maybe.

Time’s yours. Food’s mine.

*Why we keep watching the Eagles?

I keep watching because I'm a fan.  Win or lose, good or bad I will watch.  I choose to watch.  This is my team, our team.  Coaches and players will come and go. There will be good seasons and there will be bad.  The constant in all of this are the fans.  Are the Eagles tough to watch?  You bet.  I don't offer any excuses.  They stink.  That does not deter me for one second as to where I'll be on Sunday afternoon and shame on you if it does.  If you don't want to watch then don't.  I don't wear my allegiance for this team like a cheap shirt I can take off  when they're bad and then put back on when they're winning. That's the definition of a fair-weather fan and that's not me. You have to decide for yourself where you stand but choose your path wisely.  You can't straddle the fence.  You're either all in or not.  If you're looking for me on Sunday, you'll know where I'll be.  GO BIRDS.
