The Eagles bring new "spoon" to the table with Will Witherspoon

One of the things we love about sports is that "sometimes", substance beats out image and in the rocky game of life, this is a rarity. Usually, when a guy is picked in the 6th round of the NFL draft, he can reflect on a nice college career and join the workforce. However, every once in a while we find a diamond in the rough and that diamond for the Philadelphia Eagles was Brandon Gibson.

Which Eagles will make the cut?

Halfway through the preseason, the Eagles are beginning to find out what they have, and what they need before the regular season starts, Sept. 13 in Carolina. By the end of this week they will make their first cuts and will have to get the roster down to the mandatory 53 by Saturday, Sept. 5. Let’s take a position by position look at what players are in, which ones are out and which ones are still battling. Joe Mays out and Omar Gaither back in for the Eagles?

The Joe Mays Experiment could be coming to a close. Mays, who took over for Stewart Bradley as the Eagles middle linebacker, struggled again in Thursday's preseason loss to the colts. Don't be surprised if Omar Gaither is running with the first team when practice resumes at the NovaCare Complex, Saturday. At least that's the way The Eye sees it.
