World of Jewtopia Debuts in Philadelphia at the Kimmel Center on Christmas Eve

Looking for something to do over the Christmas weekend other than fight movie-going crowds to watch Avatar  or eat Chinese food? Look no further.

The weather forecast may be calling for snow, but the Kimmel Center is calling for laughs, comedic relief, and a little something different for Christmas this year. Starting today, December 24th and running through Sunday, December 27, the Kimmel Center presents the Philadelphia debut of Bryan Fogel and Sam Wolfson’s World of Jewtopia

And it has performances on Friday, December 25th at 3pm and 8pm!

Holding the record for the longest comedy in Off-Broadway history, Jewtopia combines a hit stage-play, a book and stand-up comedy into a 90-minute one-act show starring the title’s duo. Using multi-media, audience participation, and a little bit of Jewish wit, Fogel and Wolfson have created what the Chicago Tribune deemed, “A heck of a lot funnier than Jackie Mason!”

The show’s creators met in 2001 when the pair of starving artists decided to write, produce and star in their own play. $80,000 of credit card debt and two years later, the show launched to great success. Such success that The New York Times  declared Jewtopia one of the three most successful Off-Broadway productions of the last decade (along with The Blue Man Group and Stomp). Jewtopia comes to Philadelphia before it starts a series on Broadway in the Fall of 2010.

Some of the topics Fogel and Wolfson have covered include:

“How to pick the perfect restaurant table (because no table is right if you're a Jew).

“How to properly disinfect your hotel room to avoid catching the plague when on vacation.

“Major Moments in Jewish History (1993: Rabin and Arafat sign a Middle East Peace Treaty. Immediately after Bill Clinton says, "Hey let's go celebrate! I've got a Jewish girl in my office I think you'll love!")

“Actual excerpts from Moses' recently undiscovered diaries (Dear Diary. Um... It's been like 5 years and I got to be honest, I AM LOST!)”

Jewtopia is playing in the Perelman Theater on the following dates:

  • Thursday, December 24, 2009 | 7:30pm
  • Friday, December 25, 2009 | 3pm and 8pm
  • Saturday, December 26, 2009 | 3pm and 8pm
  • Sunday, December 27, 2009 | 2pm
