Hams Across America for Pig Iron Theatre Company

Miss Martha Graham CrackerYou have not been to a theatrical fundraiser, until you’ve been to one put on by Pig Iron Theatre Company. More raucous cabaret than prim black-tie event, the annual For the Love of Pig Iron Benefit is aptly themed ‘Hams Across America’ and will be held at the Trocadero Theatre, 1003 Arch Street, on Friday, January 29, 2010.

Back from a tremendously popular run in New York, the cabaret-style event will feature the following performers:

• UPenn's all-male South Asian dance troupe Dhamaka;

• Brooklyn's champion of striptease Typhoon Sugarpants;

• The neo-glam-punk band GANG;

• His majesty of soulful sultriness Johnny Showcase;

• The twirling acrobats of the Philadelphia Circus School;

• And, the incredible leaps of faith Voloshky Ukrainian Dance

Not be outdone, Pig Iron’s official muse, Dito van Reigersberg, will appear as the glorious Miss Martha Graham Cracker along with host, Quinn Bauriedel, “displaying the vocal chops of Kevin Costner and the stand-up comedy ability of early-90s Celine Dion.”

Pig Iron, known for their creativity, comedy, love of the 80’s and occasional absurdity, wants to host a fundraiser like none other. They explain, “We wondered: how did “charity events” become inexorably associated with stodgy lameness? Why, we recall a time when the charity concert really meant something, when it was associated with cool musicians like Stevie Wonder, Bono, and (inevitably) Dionne Warwick! We remember the panning shots across choruses of non-musical celebrities (hey, there’s Dan Ackroyd!) in sing-along hits like “Do They Know It’s Christmas?,” “We Are the World,” and “Voices that Care!”

The silent auction will go all night with three big prizes that will be live-auctioned during the show by our host Quinn Bauriedel, including a private party for thirty at Beau Monde serenaded by Martha Graham-Cracker and her band.

NOTE: Get your tickets early; last year For the Love of Pig Iron: The In-Hog-ural Ball was a sold-out bonanza that broke attendance records and literally stretched standing room to the back doors of the Troc. This year’s cabaret promises to be no different.

HAMS ACROSS AMERICA will be held at the Trocadero Theatre, 1003 Arch Street, on Friday, January 29, 2010. The silent auction will begin at 7:00pm, and the show starts at 8:00pm. Tickets are merely $25 until the day of the show, (they’ll be $30 on January 29.) $75 preferred-seating tickets and $600 tables for 6 are also available.

For tickets or additional information, please call 215-627-1883 or visit www.pigiron.org.

Show is 18+; attendees 18-21 will be seated in the balcony.
