Valentine's Day Restaurant Picks

The Dessert Buffet at Le Bec FineLove it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is this Sunday. I have mixed feelings about the day. When I’ve got a girlfriend, it’s like a second Christmas: presents, candy, great food, warm feelings, la de da. This year I don’t, so like all my single brethren out there, Valentine’s Day is another annoying holiday created by the greeting card company to remind me just how pathetic and hollow my life is. Or something.

Alas, I won’t be bitter! I’ve got Netflix, so my Sunday night won’t be so bad. In the meantime, I’ve checked out some Valentine’s Day specials at some of my favorite Philly restaurants to give you the heads up.

The good news is that most places are offering their special Valentine’s Day menus all weekend, so if you’re feeling cooped up from this ridiculous weather we’ve been having and want to get a jump on your celebration, you can go out Friday or Saturday or Sunday and enjoy the same romantic treatment.

Prime Rib: (1701 Locust St / Philadelphia, PA 19103; P(215) 772-1701) Opening 3:00pm Saturday and Sunday; offering regular menu and prices.

Cafe Spice: (35 S 2nd St / Philadelphia, PA 19106; P(215) 627-6273) Three course prix-fixe dinner menu with a glass of wine for $90 per couple. On Friday and Saturday, the a la carte menu will also be available. Special Valentine’s Day drinks have been added to the menu as well.

La Bec Fin: (1523 Walnut Street / Philadelphia, PA 19102; P(215) 567-1000) Friday and Saturday, a nine course grand degustation menu is available at $195. On Sunday, a five course tasting menu with choices is available at $85. Read about David's experience at Le Bec Fin by clicking here.

Verdad Restaurant & Tequila Bar: Four course “Lover’s Menu” offered Saturday and Sunday for $90 per couple.

Gypsy Saloon: (128 Ford Street/ Conshohocken, PA 19428-2953; P(610) 828-8494) Offering an Aphrodisiac Menu Friday through Sunday, in addition to their a la carte menu.

Dettera: (129 East Butler Avenue / Ambler, PA 19002-4425; P(215) 643-0111) On Sunday, they’re offering a four course menu for $65 per person, with optional wine flight for $20.

Bistrot La Minette: (623 South 6th Street / Philadelphia, PA 19147-2128; P(215) 925-8000)  All weekend, offering regular menu plus Valentine’s Day inspired specials. As usual, Bistrot will be offering boxes of Chef Peter’s Chocolates for $10 per box. (If you’ve ever had desert at Bistrot La Minette, you’ll know this is a hell of a deal). Don’t limit yourself; there’s plenty of opportunities all over the city to make this Valentine’s Day a special one. Just make sure you get your reservations in on time, and enjoy yourselves.
