Philly Funny Guide Profiles ComedySportz World Championship

Tony D's Philly Funny Guide26th Annual ComedySportz Championship, July 15-18th at World Café Live

Back in the day, ComedySportz was the only game in town with regard to comedy improv in Philadelphia. Yours truly took their classes and like so many others, didn’t make the cut to get onto their house teams. But that was okay, because many of us didn’t make the cut and we form our own improv groups and help create the improv scene that thrives today.

ComedySportz is a perfect place to take your kids to see comedy. It’s a family friendly atmosphere that’s virtually hipster-free. Oh, sure, a few may slip through the door to laugh at it ironically, but its still a fun time for your family or just for people who are new to improv.

But the big news this month is that Philly is hosting the 26th Annual ComedySportz Championship, July 15-18th at World Café Live. ComedySportz is competitive improv, each team vying for laughs. Over 150 improv people from 20 cities will descend upon the city to make you laugh. It’s a bit slapsticky, kind of like packing 150 stooges into an amphitheater, but hey, you wanted comedy right? Bobbi Block, my old improv mentor, will be doing what she does best. So if you like “Whose Line is it Anyway?” you’re going to love this show.
