Be This Summer's Beauty

"Bookmark

Do you want to have that radiant, sun-kissed (without the sun) summer look that all of your favorite celebrities have? Well, in order to do that, you need to have the right make-up and better yet, you need to know how to apply it. The summer beauty look is all about looking alive and fresh! Use bright colors with soft and subtle accents to get this, which shouldn't take you more than ten minutes to achieve!

The first step to get this "flawless summer look" is by having a clean, clear and healthy canvas. Foundation covers, but cannot erase the pimples and blemishes. Therefore Summer Fashionyou must take care of your skin! The healthier your skin is, the better your make-up looks. So here are some easy steps that you can take.

1)    Drink Water: I know you hear this all time, but in order for you to be "clean, clear and under control," you must drink water. So instead of guzzling down that soda at the next BBQ, reach for a bottle of water!

2)    Cleanser: Whether you use the celebrity-driven "Proactiv Solution" or the chain-making "Neutrogena," it really doesn't matter. All that matters is that you see good results. If you have oily-skin, you may want to try a cleanser that is less creamy and heavy. If you have dry-skin, you may want to add more moisture. Most brands label dry or oily skin on the products, so you don't have to guess. The point is, find what works for you and stick to it!

3)    Moisturizer: When choosing a moisturizer, you should take into consideration two requirements: It should smell good and feel good-so make sure it is not too heavy or greasy on your skin. Also, a quality moisturizer should never instigate your skin by irritating or burning it.

4)    SPF: It's very important, rather crucial to keep your skin protected from the sun. If you're going to spend a day at the beach, on a boat or just walking around outside, please put on SPF. Also, on a regular basis I suggest you buy a SPF moisturizer to keep skin shielded from sun exposure. This way, no matter where you end up, your face will be protected. Even if your skin is darker, don't play the fool, everyone is susceptible to skin cancer if proper care is not taken.

I also must mention that even though these are some great tips to keeping your skin "picture perfect" and healthy, there's always the occasional pimple that may show up! But the good news is this: if you religiously follow a healthy skin regiment, then Mr. and Mrs. Pimple should stay on vacation for a long time!

Summer FashionNow that you have taken proper care of your skin, you are ready to apply make-up! The main thing to remember, especially for this summer look, is to add a little shine. To do that, simply apply the bronzer foundation of your choice, which can be in a powder or liquid form. If you're oily, you may find that powder is better than then the liquid and if you have dry-skin, liquid may work better. Now, remember, you don't want to look too shiny, because it tends to look un-natural. If you have pale skin, don't buy a foundation/bronzer that is too dark, if you're brown-skin don't buy a foundation/bronzer that is too light either and if you have trouble finding the right color foundation for your skin, I suggest you ask a make-up consultant.

After your foundation/bronzer has been applied, the next thing you do is smile! Yes, that's right, I said smile! When you smile you can see your cheekbones and as you apply your blush, your cheekbones are what you want to emphasize. So, gently sweep your light pink or rosy-colored blush upward from you cheekbone to the side of your hairline.

Now, we are ready to brighten those eyes! Whether you have dark-brown, blue, green or hazel eyes, this is a fun time to experiment with bold and bright eye shadows like greens, blues, purples and yellows. Just make sure that whatever color you choose, compliments your skin complexion. An easy tip when applying eye shadow is to always remember that you begin your eye-shadow on your eyelid where your eyebrow starts and you end your shadow where your eyebrow ends. You never want to exceed these boundaries. Too much can be a disaster, so balance is key. Especially, if you do decide on the rainbow eye shadows, keep your cheeks and lips subtle and soft!

Speaking of lips, we all want to be kissed, right? Well, with these bright lip colors, I'm sure your lips will get a lot of attention. I'm talking about hot pinks, corals and of if you're risky enough neon or teal! These non-traditional lip colors are all the rave in Hollywood and soon to be in Philadelphia! When you apply your lipstick, part your lips a little and add color. When you're finished applying your lipstick, add a clear gloss, but not too much, just enough to give it some shine. Then, Pucker up!

By now, you're probably wondering where can you find these make-up products? If you haven't heard of Mac or Sephora, then you're missing out! Although they may be a little pricey-at Mac, lipstick can start at fourteen dollars. But, I do think their products are well worth it. However, since we are living in a shaky economy and money is tight, you can always go to a Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, or CVS where lipsticks start at two dollars. If you're a make-up "rookie" just beginning to experiment with make-up, I suggest you buy from one of these stores first. But here's a little secret: if you apply your make-up right, no one should be able to tell where you bought your make-up!

Just remember, make-up should be about enhancing your natural and unique beauty, not about hiding and covering it up. So as you venture off into your quest of bold and bright colors, just remember one thing: if you don't recognize yourself when you look in the mirror, then Miss Lady you are doing something wrong. Let the real you shine through so you can be this summer's beauty!
