Let's face it: in today's world of mass confusion, botched health care reforms and overall uncertainty, everyday people are looking for signs of    Adelphia Restaurant. Photo: www.clubzone.comoptimism and hope. Some, you could say, are even looking for a miracle.

102.9 WMGK- Philadelphia's Classic Rock Radio Station and Adelphia Restaurant in Deptford, New Jersey are doing their part to make one extremely lucky particpant breathe a little easier during these trying times with "Dialing For Dollars," which takes place every Wednesday (through September 23rd) from 6pm to 8pm at Adelphia. Anyone in attendance has the chance to step up to the 'MGK Prize Vault, type in a five-digit code that they think will unlock the vault and land them a $50 gift certificate or $25,000 in cash. And if $25,000 isn't enough of an enticement, Adelphia features $1 Coors Lights during the two-hour appearances.

"We're always looking for new and interesting ways to appeal to the public," says WMGK DJ Rob Calvert from 'The John DeBella Show.” "Right now, everybody wants cash so it was a no-brainer. We had the oppurtunity to give away the money and we found a partner in Adelphia and Coors Light. Why not give people the chance to come out and score? Everyone is having a good time and they're drinking some lovely beverages. There are worse ways to spend a couple hours than hanging out at a nice bar, eating some good food and taking a shot at winning $25,000, which is money that you didn't have a couple hours before." Before stepping up to the Prize Vault, contestants have to answer a trivia question correctly or show Rob an item that he announces over the bar's PA speakers (example: a pen with red ink, a sports team keychain). Contestants get a maximum of three turns at the Prize Vault per appearance, and no more than 100 Prize Vault attempts will be made at each appearance. A maximum of 20 gift cards and one Grand Prize will be awarded during the promotional period. You can also enter your name in a contest drawing to win a guitar autographed by rock legend Neil Young. However, before you get ahead of yourselves, it should be noted that the Prize Vault doesn't reveal to the contestant how close they were to winning the prize if they fail to get the proper combination.

WMGK Dialing For Dollars Wheel"It's totally random, so it's any combination of five numbers," Calvert explains. "The numbers can repeat. A lot of people enter their zip codes, but most of those haven't panned out too well. We've given away several $50 American Express Gift Cards. Everytime we've been out here, somebody, sometimes several people, have walked away with one of these gift cards. So it doesn't cost anything to step up and give it a shot." The contestants saw the humor in spinning the wheel to hopefully get that elusive prize. Patty Hogan from Woodstown, New Jersey, knew the odds of winning were slim, but nonetheless enjoyed the possibility. "It’s about as realistic as winning the Jersey Cash 5," laughed Hogan. "But there are a lot of things I could put that money towards." On this particular night, nobody walked away with the ultimate grand prize-but don't worry. Even if someone did win the $25,000 jackpot, Calvert says that the contest will go on. "We'll figure out a way to fire it up again. We're here for ten weeks. I don't know if it's going to be $25,000, but we will defintely have something for people."

Is it a long shot to win the grand prize? Absolutely. Unrealistic? Not if you win. However, even with all the questions marks, one thing is certain. How Diane, Jan, Adrienne, Cindy, and Lisa all tried their luck at the Dialing For Dollars Wheel.little or how big that chance may be, 102.9 WMGK is providing something that is a rarity in this day and age: hope.

Besides, you can't beat $1 Coors Light's either!
