Philly2Philly’s Top Picks for New Year's Eve 2010

With Christmas over, and the worst from the blizzard almost come and gone, New Year’s Eve will be here before we know it!

Even with the depressed economy looming, people still want to go out and ring in the new year with friends and loved ones in style. And there are a variety of great options in and around Philly to check out if you are on a tight budget or not. In the city, there are always a plethora of terrific options ranging from grand, large scale events to fun dance club parties to family friendly outings.

Here are Philly2Philly’s top picks for where to spend NYE across different budgets and areas for everyone!

For the large scale events, the most hyped and most talked about seems to be the Glitter City Gala at The National Constitution Center (which is extremely close to being sold out with tickets ranging from $120 to $175 for VIP service). This will sell out before NYE and so make your decision quickly!

Popular club/dance parties in the city for celebrating NYE include the new club Whisper (tickets are $135 for top shelf open bar), Zee Bar (tickets are $30 and up), and PYT in Northern Libs ($25 for one hour open bar). And for those seeking a fun yet more sophisticated smaller scale scene, there’s the NYE party at the classy Ritz Carlton ($25 admission includes cover, favors, and a champagne toast at midnight) and a 4 course dinner and The Cabaret NYE party at R2L at Two Liberty Place ($65 for dinner and $155 for the NYE open bar party).

And if you are looking to escape the city madness and are looking for a different scene, there are a few parties going on in my neck of the woods in Jersey. There is a lot of radio buzz over the NYE party at the Adventure Aquarium called the Deep Sea Splash (tickets range from $128 to $165).

For options in AC, there are numerous parties at various casinos such as at Dusk at Caesar’s (tickets are $75), Chelsea Hotel  (tickets ranging from $85 to $650 for vip packages), Casbah Nightclub party (tickets from $95 to 3,000 for ultra vip gold package), Sunrise NYE party at The Foundation Room at Showboat  with local Philly DJ Adrian Hardy (tickets are $30), and at the Borgata (Mixx tickets are $100, MurMur tickets are $125). There is definitely lots of fun to be had in Jersey and many options to choose from!

Or if you will be celebrating with some young ones and want to celebrate the upcoming New Year as a family, there are some great options both in the city and in the suburbs. There are family events running at the Please Touch Museum, Franklin Square, Battleship New Jersey ($60 overnight adventure which includes dinner and breakfast), Blue Cross RiverRink Party on the Ice ($30 for skaters, $20 for nonskaters), free fireworks at Penn's Landing at 6pm and at midnight, and of course, the free Mummers Parade on Broad Street on New Year’s Day from 9am to 5pm. It’s definitely fun for any age group, just bundle up!

So no matter what your budget is or where you decide to spend NYE this year, we at Philly2Philly hope that you have an awesome and safe New Year’s Eve. And best of luck, love, health, and happiness for the upcoming year of 2011!!
