Philly2Philly.com Winner Predictions for 2011 Golden Globes Movie Nominations

Cooney’s Predictions for The Golden Globes – Movie Nominations

Best Motion Picture, DramaThe Fighter Movie
Black Swan
The Fighter
The King’s Speech
The Social Network

I’m thinking Social Network, which I did not actually get a chance to see.

Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical
Alice in Wonderland
The Kids Are All Right
The Tourist

I’m going with the Kids Are All Right… though I would not have classified this as a comedy. And there was no singing.

Best Director - Motion Picture
Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan
David Fincher - The Social Network
Tom Hooper - The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan - Inception
David O. Russell - The Fighter

This is tricky. I think Aronofky’s got a solid shot. But so does Fincher and Nolan. Ok. I’ll commit: Aronofsky.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama
Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network
Colin Firth - The King's Speech
James Franco - 127 Hours
 Ryan Gosling - Blue Valentine
Mark Wahlberg - The Fighter

I’d love to see Ryan Gosling win…. I’m thinking James Franco might be suffering from over exposure. But think folks may favor Wahlberg or Eisenberg. Hmmm. I’ll go with Jesse Eisenberg. He’s like Natlie Portman – lots of indie cred, good reputation.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama
Halle Berry - Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence - Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Michelle Williams  - Blue Valentine

I think Natalie Portman is going to win. She’s been acting for over 20 years, Natalie Portman in "Black Swan." Photo: screencrave.com/tag/natalie-portman/has the ideal pedigree – Harvard educated, never been to rehab, and the fact that’s she’s now pregnant and engaged is a nice contrast to her character – the tortured ballerina.

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy
Johnny Depp - Alice in Wonderland
Johnny Depp - The Tourist
Paul Giamatti -Barney's Version
Jake Gyllenhaal - Love and Other Drugs
Kevin Spacey -Casino Jack

Hmmmm… Johnny’s not going to win… because his two nominations are going to cancel each other out. And seriously, for the Tourist? Come on. He could play that part sleepwalking. Paul and Kevin’s movies seem too obscure. Jake Gyllenhaal is my pick. The rampant nudity might have helped too.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy
Anne Hathaway -Love and Other Drugs
Julianne Moore - The Kids Are All Right
Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
Emma Stone - Easy A
Angelina Jolie - The Tourist

This is tough. Both Julianne and Annette were great in the Kid’s Are All Right, but I am not in love with that story as much as other people seem to be. I think Emma Stone has a strong shot… but I’m going to go with Ann Hathaway for the same reason I picked Jake Gyllenhaal. I think this will be another ingénue win!

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture
Christian Bale -The Fighter
Michael Douglas - Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield - The Social Network
Jeremy Renner - The Town
Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech

I’d love to see Jeremy Renner win, but Christian Bale…. Well he’s sooo committed.

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture
Amy Adams - The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
Mila Kunis - Black Swan
Melissa Leo - The Fighter
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom

Again, two noms from the Fighter are going to split the vote. I think Mila Kunis is going to win because the Golden Globe favors the pretty young things.

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture'The Social Network' photo: Columbia Pictures
127 Hours
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network

I think the Social Network is going to win. Aaron Sorkin seems to be a favorite. I’d go for Inception because Nolan created this complex world I loved getting lost in.

Best Animated Feature Film
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Toy Story 3

My vote for the winner - Toy Story Three. Everyone I know loved it.

Best Foreign Language Film
The Concert
The Edge
I Am Love
In a Better World

I think I am Love is going to win, because folks will be impressed by Tilda speaking Italian, and doesn’t everyone like food? But seriously, it’s a great story.

Best Original Song - Motion Picture
Bound to You-Burlesque
Coming Home-Country Strong
I See the Light-Tangled
There's a Place for Us-Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
You Haven't Seen the Last of Me-Burlesque

Since there are two Burlesque noms, it will split their vote. So I think the cartoon Tangled’s going to win.

Best Original Score - Motion Picture
Alexandre Desplot-The King's Speech
Danny Elfman-Alice in Wonderland
A.R. Rahmin-127 Hours
Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross-The Social Network
Hans Zimmer-Inception

I think Hans Zimmer is going to win. A friend sent me this and I though it was super cool.

And the last category: Who’s going to be inappropriately drunk when they are on stage?
