Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, and others attend Atlantic City's Fourth Annual 'Savor Borgata'

Luscious libations, fantastic food and delicious desserts were on the menu this weekend at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa’s  annual food and wine event, Savor Borgata: A Taste of American Classics. Bringing together some of the biggest names in the culinary world, the casino welcomed celebrity chefs to showcase their culinary skills in the resort. This year, each restaurant had its own station offering guests the chance to sample the chef’s unique approach to classic American cuisine paired with wine, beer and spirits. As attendees perused the room many were ecstatic to have the opportunity to speak with their favorite chefs about cooking.

Some of the chefs in attendance included Wolfgang Puck of Wolfgang Puck American Grille; Bobby Flay of Bobby Flay Steak; Michael Mina  of SEABLUE – A Michael Mina Restaurant; Michael Schulson of Izakaya – A Modern Japanese Pub; and Stephen Kalt  of Fornelletto Cucina & Wine Bar, who said he looks forward to this event each year.

“Everybody’s in town, all the chefs are here, everybody’s really pumped up and it’s always a great event; you have people coming and partying and eating and drinking it’s really probably my favorite weekend of the whole year at the Borgata,” Kalt says.

Geoffrey Zakarian from The Water Club at Borgata also had a station at the event along with Ron Ross, a Borgata Executive Chef; Thaddeus DuBois, a Borgata Executive Pastry Chef; Tony Luke of Tony Luke’s Old Philly Style Sandwiches; restaurateurs Greg and Marc Sherry with Chef Romeo DiBona from Old Homestead Steak House and for the first time in the event’s four year history, Borgata welcomed guest chef Marc Vetri of Philadelphia’s award-winning Vetri Ristorante, Osteria, and Amis Trattoria to the culinary lineup. Joe Lupo, Senior Vice President of Operations for Borgata, believes the food and wine celebration continues to draw large crowds since its inception thanks to their restaurants notoriety and celebrity chef’s.

“It’s become our premiere annual event for our food and beverage program. We have under one roof, probably the best collections of chefs and restaurants on the East Coast,” says Lupo.

The event was hosted by Food Network personality Claire Robinson. In addition to tasting savory items, guests had the opportunity to meet and mingle with the renowned chefs. At Flay’s station, many fans were excited to talk with him about his new cookbook which he says offers a vast mixture of flavors.

“It's called the Bar Americain Cookbook which is named after my New York City restaurant and it's regional American food that is in the style of a Parisian Brasserie so it's a combination of Parisian Brasserie and American regional cuisine,” Flay explained.Bobby Flay photo: Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa

In addition to enjoying the event with fans, the chefs also got to spend time with each other—something their busy schedules often prevent.

“This is a blast being with all these chefs; we get to go out—the chefs don’t get together in gaggles like this and go out, it’s fun,” Zakarian explained.

The casino also expanded its outreach by partnering with the Academy of Culinary Arts to provide a little over two dozen students with a learning experience of a lifetime. In support of their education, Borgata welcomed the students to assist the acclaimed chefs during the Savor Borgata event. Puck offered advice for the aspiring young chefs.

“I think the most important thing is to have patience when you're young you have to learn. A lot of people think they know a lot but it's only when you know nothing; the more you know the more you know you can learn and I think that's really good.”

The Savor Borgata event brought together celebrity chefs, guests and student chefs for an enchanting evening filled with delicious culinary creations.
