'Fiona's Children's Special Occasion' boutique in Northern Liberties inspires fashion and beauty at any age

Technicolor™ is a trademarked process of color cinematography.  It was founded in the 1930’s where it 'Fiona's Children's Special Occasion' boutique in Northern Liberties inspires fashion and beauty at any agewas first used in filming Hollywood musicals.  It enabled us to watch Dorothy as she entered her picturesque new world in The Wizard of Oz.

Even though most of us have always known color television, I have a hunch that we still watch 'The Wizard' and feel those thrill bumps when Dorothy opens the door to reveal all that is the Emerald City’s lollipops and rainbows. Maybe it’s because there is a dream(s) that we are still holding on to hoping that one day it will come true.

I recently opened the door to a premier atelier children’s boutique called Fiona’s Children’s Special Occasion and once inside quite a few of my dreams started to stir.  I stood in this extraordinary boutique surrounded by silk, lace, tulle and sequin-encrusted embellishments. One dress more beautiful and special than the next.  I felt like a princess full of fashionspiration and knew this was the place for a young girl to start dreaming and a woman to keep dreaming.

'Fiona's,' located in the Piazza at Schmidt’s in Northern Liberties, is Philadelphia’s fashion house for girls ranging in sizes from newborn to 16x for Christening, Holy Communion, Bat/Bar Mitzvah, holiday or just-because elegant dresses and apparel.  Featured brands include Philadelphia’s own Joan Calabrese Couture and Joan Calabrese for Mon Cheri, Malley and Co., and many more.

Karen Clarke is the owner and visionary of all that is Fiona's Children's Special OccasionKaren Clarke (seen here with one of her five grandchildren), is the owner and visionary of all that is Fiona's Children's Special OccasionKaren is a garment designer and seamstress who knew from a very young age that she wanted to work in the fashion industry.  She attended the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio and Traphagen School of Design in Grammercy Park, NY.

However, Karen focused on a corporate career after also earning her Bachelor’s degree in accounting and MBA from Mount St. Mary’s University.  It wasn’t until 30 years later and after the birth of her first grandchild that something told Karen it was finally time to live her lifelong dream.

In the spring of 2010 Karen opened her first boutique, Fiona’s Childrenswear (also located in the Piazza a few doors down from Special Occasion), where you can shop for your prince and/or princess for formal or fun clothing by local brands Llum and Wonderboy or why not let Karen weave her remarkable talent into a custom design request.

I would have been remiss if I didn’t share with you Karen’s beautiful gift and hidden treasure talent as a seamstress nor would I be doing what I love to do and that is to inspire women of all ages to live their dreams through all that is fashion and beauty.

The Catwalk of life mirrors that famous yellow brick road with every twist and turn but with each step we take we need to keep alive the desires in our heart and remember “Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man that he didn’t already have.”  Dream and live your life in Technicolor™.
