Van Halen, White Rabbits Among Top Philly Shows for Week of March 4th

Van Halen:  Wells Fargo Center, Monday, March 5
David Lee Roth fronts Van Halen as they tour in support of their new record, 'A Different Kind of Truth.'  Eddie’s son Wolfgang (how’s that for a rock star name) now plays bass with them. Check back for Joe’s concert review later this week.  Below you can find their video for the album’s lead single, ‘Tattoo.'

White Rabbits  at Union Transfer, Tuesday March 6
It’s no secret that I love White Rabbits. P2P interviewed their guitarist Alex Even back in 2010. Their third album, Milk Famous  drops Tuesday, March 6th. You should check them out when they headline at Union Transfer that night, with Tennis and Daughter opening. Still skeptical? Check them out performing their tune ' Temporary' on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Jennifer O’Connor:  North Star Bar, Tuesday March 6.
If you’re looking for a more mellow evening, check out singer/songwriter Jennifer O’Connor. Her lyrics remind me a bit of Lisa Loeb and Juliana Hatfield. See her video for Always In Your Mind.

Magnetic Fields: Union Transfer, Wednesday March 7
Magentic Fields is the pseudonym of Stephen Merritt is a songwriter who writes and records the music in New York City. On tour he is accompanied by cellist Sam Davol, banjo player/second guitarist John Woo, and percussionist/pianist Claudia Gonson. The latest release is Love at the Bottom of the Sea.

Here’s the video for their single, Andrew in Drag:

Jon Anderson: Theatre of the Living Arts, March 7
Anderson, the vocalist from Yes is touring playing a mix of material from Yes and his solo work. His site includes both art and music videos.

moe: Electric Factory, March 9
For those looking for some Jam band sounds, check out moe. The band formed almost 20 years ago at the University of Buffalo. You can find their YouTube channel here.

Craig Finn at MilkBoy, Philly- Friday, March 9
The lead singer of the Hold Steady branches out with a solo record. Clear Heart Full Eyes is a steal on Amazon for 5.99. Craig’s blog documents his adventures on tour.

Paddy Molone and the Chieftains: Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, March 9
Get ready for St. Patrick’s Day with the Chieftain’s traditional Irish music. The group is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, slainte! Sign up for their newsletter and receive a free download.

Sophie B. Hawkins at Tin Angel- Friday March 9
Check out Sophie B. Hawkin's record release party at Tin Angel. Michele Karmin opens. Want to ensure good seats? Grab dinner downstairs at the fantastic Serrano restaurant. I recommend the salmon and the meze.
