‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 5 Episode 6 Recap: ‘Handle with Care’

There’s a lot to celebrate in this episode of The Vampire Diaries. Katherine (Nina Dobrev) somehow dodges death (again) Silas (Paul Wesley) is now an immortal witch and the rest of the gang prepare to bring back Bonnie (Kat Graham).

Mission Impossible

Silas maintains his end of the bargain to help the group find the anchor to the other side. However, no one really seems to trust an extremely old and evil immortal. The good news about this treasure hunt is it’s located in our own backyard. (Or at least for fictional purposes.) It appears that the anchor is hidden in a New Jersey stockyard.

What seems like a perfect plan always comes with a price. The anchor is protected by an assembly of travelers. Tessa (Janina Gavankar), who is keeping Stefan (Wesley) hostage (again), plans to do whatever it takes to prevent Silas from destroying the other side. Photo: CW

Back on campus, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Katherine team up to take down Dr. Maxfield (Rick Cosnett). The secret society has planned to scout out Elena until suspicion arrived that she is a vampire. Little does the society know, Elena (Dobrev) has a crafty doppelganger that can cross over any threshold.  However, Katherine is deeply discovering (after much evidence) that she may be dying. Holding Maxfield against his will. Katherine requests he help her.

Needle in a haystack

Still looking for the anchor, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) runs into two travelers. This meet and greet doesn’t last very long since like Damon, he was quick to murder them

Trapped in the creepy cabin, Elena deals with a little thing called jealousy. Watching Tessa and Stefan get somewhat cozy doesn’t exactly sit well for her. No thanks to Silas, the three are spellbound until sunset. Fortunately, Stefan soon comes to her rescue stabbing Tessa to create an immediate escape.

Although chivalrous, it’s without a doubt that this random act of kindness will eventually come with consequences. Back at the stockyard, Silas discovers that the anchor is not actually an object. Tessa (crazy witch that she is) didn’t exactly kill Amara (Dobrev).  She was created to be the anchor to the other side.

The whole point of Silas dying is to be with his one true love. However, with his one true love alive, Bonnie’s return may be put on hold. Being trapped in stone for over 2,000 years doesn’t exactly make coming back to life a homecoming. Once Amara realizes the cure is within Silas she drinks his blood hoping to die in peace. Not exactly the romantic reunion Silas was hoping for.

With Amara being human again, Bonnie’s fate rests in her hands. In order to bring back Bonnie, Amara must stay alive. Although his memories are wiped clean, Stefan’s compassion remains intact. Going back to cabin to check on Tessa he soon regrets his sympathy. Tessa uses her power to evoke the pain and regret he struggled with for centuries. See, consequences...
