‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Episode 4 Recap: “Black Hole Sun”

The Violet Hour

1994 is finally starting to look up for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham).

Bonnie’s powers have returned. However, only one thing is holding them back from getting home.

According to Kai (Chris Wood), they must also harness the power of the eclipse using a mystical relic called an ascendant

In order to go forth with this plan, Damon must relive his past in order to find the clue that will send them home.

While Bonnie and Damon prepare to get back home, Stefan (Paul Wesley) explains to Elena (Nina Dobrev) why he refuses to return. Nevertheless, the staged proposal was a cute way to explain how refreshing it can be to start a new life.Photos: CW

Forget Me Not

Since Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) has been on the back burner lately, Alaric has decided to step in. The loss of Bonnie has really got to him, but Alaric (Matthew Davis) tries to assure him that he is not the only one with resentment.

Elena discovers Stefan is intentionally hurting himself in order to feel human. Unfortunately, Stefan didn’t get the “Don’t tell Elena about Damon” memo, totally confusing her.

Flashing back, we see Damon return home after his epic ripping spree in New York. Although it’s always seemed Stefan isn’t that fond of Damon, he still desperately wants to see the good in him.

Poison & Wine

One of the clues shows Damon killing an innocent pregnant woman. This woman was involved with Zach Salvatore (Chris William Martin), who owned the estate in 1994. Though she lost her life, doctors were able to save the life of the baby, who turns out to be Sarah (Gabrielle Walsh). Her father, after witnessing such an awful act, was compelled to forget everything including Gail and the baby.

The mystery of Kai begins to unfold when Bonnie remembers an archive from the paper. In 1994, Kai murdered his entire family (an entire family of witches!). His punishment for betraying his coven was banishment into another realm (The same realm Damon and Bonnie ended up).

Tripp (Colin Ferguson) confides in Matt (Zach Roerig) and reveals his secret. For years he has been capturing and torturing vampires as vengeance for his late wife. Apparently, Enzo (Michael Malarkey), is the one he has been looking for all these years.

The good news is that Enzo isn’t a total monster- he managed to spare the life of Ivy. But now, she’s a hunger newborn ready to slaughter the entire town.

Another fun fact we learn about Kai is that while he has no magic himself, he can temporarily take it from others. Either they take him with them, or he'll steal Bonnie's magic and kill both her and Damon.
