‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 6 Episode 6 Recap: “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get”

Near and Far

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is finally back, but his welcome home party will have to be put on hold. Damon decides to conjure a cover up for why Bonnie (Kat Graham) is not with him. The tale will be that once Damon arrived to Mystic Falls in 1994, Bonnie was nowhere to be found. “She found peace,” which is what he tells Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), knowing out of everyone, the news of Bonnie would completely destroy him.Photo credit: CW

Alaric (Matthew Davis) begs Elena (Nina Dobrev) to allow him to return her memories of Damon. Since the compulsion permits her no interest of wanting to see Damon, she spends the day ignoring him.

Although Alaric succeeds at compelling Elena, his compulsion with Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) goes in a whole other direction. After the intense events during the homecoming party, Alaric decides to compel Jo into forgetting she has any feelings for him. However, it doesn’t appear that she was compelled at all. Alaric asks Elena to find any information she can during her shift at Whitmore.

Trip threatens Enzo (Michael Malarkey) to give him the names of his friends or he will drive him across the border of Mystic Falls. Enzo threatens Matt (Zach Roerig) that he will expose his relationship with the same team.

Raging Fire

While we’re on the subject of exposing, Jo reveals her knowledge of Elena and Alaric. Liam (Marco James) discloses to Jo his suspicion of how Elena was able to heal one of the victims that should have been dead. Putting her own doubt with Alaric and Liam’s confession together, she is now certain that they are vampires. Nevertheless, the only way anyone can resist compulsion is that they must be a witch.

Matt does some digging to find out Tripp’s next move. Sarah (Gabrielle Walsh) also has a mystery to solve regarding her parents. While Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) set out to find Enzo, they soon discover Tripp’s new target.

Elena finds that Tripp has captured Damon. Alaric and Stefan rush to his rescue before he is driven across the border. The pressure of losing Damon (again) starts to eat at Elena. Although she was compelled to forget, the little information she obtained of her past, strikes her interest.

No Such Thing as Time

Ric and Stefan’s plan to take down Tripp goes south, causing Alaric, Damon, and Enzo to be trapped over the border. Stefan bravely crosses over, almost risking his own life to save the life of his brother (and that other vampire Caroline has grown fond of).

Jo comes to Alaric’s aid. Not only does she save an immortal, she grants him the life that was taken from him four years ago, humanity. Maybe there is hope for the two after all.

Unfortunately for Elena, that means any chance of her regaining her memory is now impossible.

Matt warns Sarah that she is better off staying away from the Salvatore’s because they are vampires. (“Wherever they go death and pain follow”). Regardless of the lie Damon made up to protect Jeremy, he still is completely torn. The loss of Bonnie is destroying him to where the ones around him feel helpless as to what they can do.

Caroline regrets to confess her true feelings for Stefan after the amount of frustration he has put her through. Even though Elena no longer obtains any memory of the love she and Damon shared, a part of her wants to reconnect with him.
