'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Episode 7 Recap: “Do You Remember the First Time?"

"Bookmark

Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tries to convince Elena (Nina Dobrev) to allow herself to feel something for him. However, because she no longer has the memory of them together, her will to try is not as strong as he would hope.

After giving  Alaric (Matthew Davis) his life back as a human, that pretty much makes Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) his unofficial girlfriend, whom invites him to a hospital fundraiser.

Tripp (Colin Ferguson), who is now the one captured reaps the rude awakening for almost killing Matt’s (Zach Roerig) complicated circle of vampire friends. The catch (as usual) is that he was not a one man show. A team of Tripp’s men have kidnapped Caroline’s mother, threatening to kill her if Tripp is not returned. Photo credit: CW

Somehow in the middle of all the chaos, Stefan (Paul Wesley) discovers that Caroline (Candice Accola) allegedly is harboring feelings for him. No thanks to Enzo (Michael Malarkey) for revealing this information.

Liam (Marco James) who is still playing detective regarding the corn maze massacre, is having a hard time understanding how the girl Elena saved shows no sign or memory of her injury. He also threatens Elena that he either gives him an explanation of what is going on, or he’ll be forced to do the digging himself.

Still stuck in 1994, Bonnie (Kat Graham)  tries her best to escape Kai (Chris Wood), and return home. She manages to steal the ascendant, but of course, Kai is one step ahead and holds on to the last piece- knowing she most likely would try to escape.

Tyler (Michael Trevino) tries to find anyway he can to repay his gratitude to Liv (Penelope Mitchell) for saving his life. Although she is not the best at showing emotion, it is obvious she most likely would do it again for him in a heartbeat.

Damon crashes the hospital fundraiser, causing more confusion for Liam (since earlier he was told Damon had died). Regardless of his awkward intrusion, Elena agrees to try to connect to any feeling that could be obtainable.

Once Bonnie realizes there is no way around getting home alone, she decides to harness her magic into a capsule, using her childhood teddy bear as the anchor.

The gang keeps their end of the bargain and returns Tripp in exchange for Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite Macintyre). When Tripp crosses over the border, however, it appears that Enzo made sure to turn him right before the exchange, causing him to die. The look of terror and anguish on Matt’s face hints he may have been more than just his mentor turned Vampire Hunter. Father son reunion perhaps?

Damon replays the night she last told him she loved him. They try to travel a little more down memory lane but nothing seems to trigger any romantic feelings. Desperate to know how it felt to be in love with the evil Salvatore, Elena slightly crosses the border, hoping it will trigger any memory. The only memory she was able to obtain was a meteor shower/rainstorm they experienced one summer. However (once again), Damon feels it would be best to let her have an easier, less complicated life.

Stefan questions the accusations made that Caroline holds feelings for him. Caroline refuses to go into any detail of what she feels, due to the fact that she still resents his actions over the past few months. The fact that he even asked proves he may hold some feelings, too.

After finally having a successful evening out, Alaric learns a piece of Jo’s past. Not only did she bind her magic for safe keeping, she didn’t exactly have the best upbringing- as she reveals the scar from the time her own brother tried killing her.
