‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 5 Episode 15 Recap: Gone Girl

It’s the final showdown for Katherine (Nina Dobrev), now that the rest of the group is aware that she has been portraying Elena this entire time.  Nadia (Olga Fonda) is vastly getting worse from Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) bite, and since Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is the only cure to save her life, Katherine has no other option but to ask Wes (Rick Cosnett) for him to help her. Still locked in the Salvatore dungeon, Stefan (Paul Wesley) brings to Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) attention that every action he recently made due to his reaction to Elena breaking up with him was all because of Katherine. Due to Nadia’s condition, the group is aware that Katherine will not leave her side. The team thinks of ways to lure Katherine to the Salvatore estate. They are careful to prevent any sign of suspicion, since this may risk the chance of her running.

In between all of the uproar, we see Nadia flashback to several occasions of her searching for her mother. It is apparent the years of determination Nadia has spent looking for Katherine. Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Jeremy (Steven R McQueen) reach out to Liv (Penelope Mitchell), hoping she will do another tracking spell to find Katherine’s location. Things get a bit awkward for Bonnie as she watches Liv spend more time flirting with Jeremy than actually helping them. Tyler and Damon get in a heated debate, causing him to break from his cell. Hungry and free, Damon tracks down Wes. Finally getting the chance to seek revenge, Damon leaves little to the imagination. Photo: CW

Now that Katherine’s location has been found, Stefan uses Nadia as ransom in order to get Katherine to the house.  Though every instinct in Katherine’s mind is to run, not even she can dismiss the fact that her only daughter is dying. Making one last attempt to made peace with Nadia, Katherine allows Nadia to invasion the life she should have had.

It is now the 11th hour and Katherine is intrigued to discover who will be the one to kill her. In order for Elena to be released back into her body, Katherine must be stabbed with the traveler’s knife. Going around the group, Katherine takes one last moment to confess her love to Stefan, not realizing he’s the one holding the dagger. Bonnie prepares for Katherine to cross over while the rest of the group waits patiently for Elena to return back to her body. Having a bit of sympathy for Nadia’s demise, Matt (Zach Roerig) takes her body for a proper burial.

While the gang takes a small moment outside of all the chaos, Caroline (Candice Accola) confronts Tyler. She refuses to feel guilty any longer, due to the fact that he is no better for biting Nadia. If you we haven’t learned anything from Katherine, it is important to know that she always has to have the last word. After she realized that Wes had no intention on helping her, she decides to infect Elena with the ripper virus.

Katherine has forever felt threatened by Elena since she has always wanted. However, Katherine may not get the ending she would have hoped. As she tries to cross over to the other side, nothing seems to happen. A large gust of winds blows through the church that Bonnie and Katherine are in, pulling her into what seems like a vortex into the unknown.
