'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Episode 18 Recap: “I Could Never Love Like That”

Disclaimer: this is Bonnie-less (Kat Graham) episode. Meaning she is probably still enjoying recent technology.

Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) continue to terrorize innocents, making them a vampire power couple. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) struggles with how he is going to reveal to Elena (Nina Dobrev) that he once again has the cure for humanityPhoto: CW

Enzo (Michael Malarkey) finally reveals his bizarre infatuation with Stefan and getting revenge. Apparently, his mother is the one who turned him. He tries to explain to Sarah (Tristin Mays) that she is the reason his life has been a downward spiral. Sarah has a hard time understanding how one would hate a life of superhuman strength, never aging and healing automatically.

Even Edward Cullen will tell you that vampirism is a long, complicated and lonely life.

Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino) decide once and for all to take down Caroline and Stefan. This will be good practice for them, considering they will be junior officers in the near future. Based on the turn of events from their past “friends,” switching back can be a long process. Just as Tyler finally has enough and stands up to Stefan, Caroline takes a hit at Matt (literally) and wounds him in the stomach, making this an epic count of times he’s been brutally injured.

Damon struggles to convince Lily (Annie Wersching) to be there for Stefan, since she is the only trigger that will quickly knock him back into his humanity. She fears that because she has been a vampire for so long, she has lost the will to empathies. Tyler rushes Matt to the hospital, where moment’s prior, Elena discovers Jo’s (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) big news.

Following usual protocol, Elena tries to give Matt her blood, but he refuses. After all he has been through over the years, he has a right to want modern medicine over supernatural healing. Lily gets up the guts to reach out to Stefan and it’s a success. She reveals to him that the burden he has held for so long is due to Lily. His ripper instinct was inherited through her.

Now that he’s back to normal, he rushes to find Caroline to undo the evil he’s already implanted in her. Damon almost comes to a decision to give Elena the cure, but is interrupted when Jo frantically tells the gang that Kai is gone and the ascendant needs to be returned, since now they are up against Vampire-Witch hybrids.
