Carlos Santana staying busy as ever at age 68

Carlos Santana sure is staying busy these days.

Recently, the 68-year-old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy Award-winning guitarist brought his globally known unique music to Atlantic City, performing two sold out weekend shows at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. Photo: havana-live.info

Santana, who's been successfully pioneering the blend of rock and Latin American music for almost half a century, is currently touring behind his May 2014 studio LP Corazon, which featured contemporary collaborations with Miguel and Juanes, as well as a new rendition of “Oye Como Va” with rapper Pitbull. Along with Pitbull, the industry icon’s 12-song project features him sharing the studio with other various guest artists including reggae musician, Ziggy Marley, Latin rockers Juanes and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Latin pop queen Gloria Estefan and jazz legend Wayne Shorter.

According to published reports, Santana is in the final stages of his reunion album commemorating 1971 and 1972. The reunited band’s lineup will include guitarist Neal Schon and keyboardist and singer Gregg Rolie (who later formed the group Journey), drummer Michael Shrieve and percussionist Michael Carabello. The group’s album is expected to be completed this fall and many anticipate a tour for 2016.

Meanwhile, Santana has formed a new all-star band with three jazz greats: keyboardist Herbie Hancock, saxophonist Wayne Shorter and guitarist John McLaughlin. The men recorded the 1973 album, Love, Devotion, Surrender along with Invitation to Illumination—Live At Montreux 2010 which is scheduled to be released September 22. Santana will be joined by his wife, drummer Cindy Blackman Santana, who performed with Lenny Kravitz during his August 30th show in Philadelphia.

Presently, Santana and his current band will resume their multi-year concert residency at the House of Blues in Las Vegas.
