PREVIEW: Cinderella at the Academy of Music


Cinderella is a fairy tale that has stood the test of time. This enduring classic, kicked-off the Pennsylvania Ballet's 2016-2017 season. Audience members--young and old fell in love for the first time--or again--with one of the most popular princess fairy tales presented on the stage at the Academy of Music.PREVIEW: Cinderella at the Academy of Music


Principal dancers Oksana Maslova and Sterling Baca performed the roles of Cinderella and the Prince, respectively. In this rags-to-riches story, a young girl who stays true to herself in the face of great sorrow and difficulty. Her kindness and the strength of her spirit are traits she draws on (of-course--with the help of a little magic) to overcome mistreatment by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters and to ultimately win the heart of the handsome prince and find her "happily-ever-after."


British choreographer Ben Stevenson's creation first premiered in 1970 by the National Ballet of Washington. The production is set to a lyrical score by Sergei Prokofiev. The Pennsylvania Ballet is one of the nation’s leading ballet companies. Headquartered in Philadelphia, the company’s annual local season features six programs of classic favorites and new works.


The beautiful combination of music and dance in Cinderella, transcended culture and time as the production of this classic fairytale, enchanted theater lovers.
