Season 6 of ‘Dexter’ ended with a bang and the writers kept on keeping on the hamster wheel to start season 7 off right. Unlike the disappointment many fans felt when season 5 started (after Rita) this episode had non-stop drama, foreshadowing and excitement!

The episode started with Dexter en route to the airport with his getaway bag. Fans were tricked into believing he was headed out of the country to escape Deb and whatever aftermath could be coming. Instead, it turned out that he was at the airport for a kill, which fans saw later in the episode.

Deb helped him stage a fire at the scene where detectives start assuming that Travis may have killed himself. Until LaGuerta takes a blood slide (one of Dexter’s collection) from the scene, and Detective Anderson calls Deb to ask where Travis’ car might be. Deb starts to ponder this and it looks bad for Dexter, but all works in his favor- as Anderson stops on the highway to help someone with a flat and gets killed when he finds a body in the person’s trunk. Turns out, it is someone from the Ukranian mob, and that is who Dexter ends up killing for a fix later in the show. Obviously, having the Ukranina mob after him will add to the suspense the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, Deb continues to question things as she thinks about what just happened. The way Travis body was wrapped in plastic is eerily familiar to what happened to her with the ice truck killer. She starts wondering where Dexter goes and even calls Jamie (the babysitter) to check in and find out he isn’t home.

When Dexter is home, Jamie’s boyfriend Louis’ (the odd and entertaining intern) is on Dexter’s side of the apartment and Dexter lets him know that’s not acceptable! Later, LaGuerta asks Masuka about how/why the lab collects these blood slides. When Masuka tells her the late Doakes was the only one to do so, she pockets the evidence. Uh oh, Dexter… this doesn’t look good for you!

The episode ends with Deb inside Dexter’s apartment, having torn the place apart and finding his knives, blood slides and more. She asks him if he’s a serial killer, and he says yes.

Is it real? Is it a dream? What do you think? We’ll find out soon!

Dexter airs Sunday nights at 9pm on Showtime, and if you’re too busy watching Sunday Night Football to tune in, there is an encore presentation Monday nights at 9pm.
