Veterans Day–Who’s Ready For A Sale!

Today we celebrate Veterans Day – an annual American holiday honoring military veterans. And how will most of us show our appreciation for the Veterans Daybrave men and women of the military who risk their lives so we can enjoy our freedom and way of life?

By going out and buying a mattress or a microwave… by taking advantage of a 2-1 at whatever buffet that happens to be nearest to our home.

Yes, like most of the holidays we celebrate in this country, Veteran’s Day  has become just another reason for companies to jam one sale after another down our throats.

Look, I’m not knocking the companies, but can we all just take a moment and actually reflect on what this day really means?

Think about this…

We’re talking about people who are willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for their country. To give of their life so you and I can go buy a washer & dryer in their honor.

Let that resonate and stew for a few seconds…

One of the ultimate juxtapositions is between these brave men and women of the armed forces – whose dedication and devotion are borne of pure love for their country, and people like former Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.

In case you missed, Larry Johnson is the latest in the never-ending stream of professional athletes to exude a completely callous attitude and sense of entitlement. His dedication and devotion are to one thing and one thing only – the almighty dollar.

In closing… Personally I think we should celebrate Veterans EVERY day. They don’t stop defending our country the other 364 days of the year so why should we not at least honor them every day as well?

Of course that would mean putting up with all those damn sale circulars in my mailbox every day, too.
