George Clooney and Wyclef Jean's Hope for Haiti Telethon mirroring We Are The World's impact

Thus far the Haiti Telethon organized by George Clooney and Wyclef Jean has been a huge success.hope for haiti

The concert called "Hope for Haiti Now" aired on MTV and raised between $10 million and $16 million last night.

The star power associated with the Hope for Haiti telethon rivals that of We Are The World, which is coming up on it's 25th anniversary.  Not to mention, it's success certainly will rival it too. We are the World earned over $50 million in the late 80's.  Between sales of Itunes singles and donations, Hope for Haiti Now should also do amazingly well.

Clooney and Jean are behind it and it was hosted by CNN reporter Anderson Cooper.  Hope for Haiti included performances by Madonna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Coldplay, Jay-Z, Rihanna, U2, Sheryl Crow and many more.

Tom Hanks also attended after appearing on Conan O'Brien's final show.

There is in fact a We are the World remake planned by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, and the benefits will go to Haiti.

It's wonderful that the stars in Hollywood and the music industry are coming together at a time like this. It's quite eerie that We are the World is nearing it's 25th anniversary.
