Conan O'Brien to Fox? Negotiations to begin this week...or not?

Now that Conan O'Brien has walked off into the sunset from the Tonight Show, his next obvious move is to go to Fox.

Surely the negotiations are underway for him to go head-to-head against Leno in September right?

According to the NY Post (hardly the most credible news source) said negotiations could begin this week between Conan and Fox.

Fox's late night TV exec Peter Reily stated, "He's one of the few guys on the planet who has demonstrated he can do one of these shows every night."

Word is that Fox will start courting Conan this week because many other networks will look to lock him up ASAP.

Conan left the Tonight Show on a great note and was a class act.  He killed on the ratings too, drawing in over 7 million viewers.

This deal makes sense on many levels for Fox.  They have never had a big-time late night show.  Also, with the NFL starting up in September, they can really market the Conan O'Brien show in a huge way.

With all this said, not one rep from Fox has come out and said anything about going after Conan just yet.  Until we hear it from the horse's mouth it's still just speculation.
