The Super Bowl isn't only about partying, for others it's about betting and gambling addiction

So here we are on the day of the Super Bowl.  With all the glitz and glamour and the two-week build-up to the biggest sporting event of the year, we associate it with vegasfun. Millions of Americans devote parties to the Super Bowl.

For millions of people the game is about something else entirely. For every guy throwing a Super Bowl party for his friends, there's that fellow working long hours just to get by who has a deep, dark secret. He's trying to "catch up." By catch up I mean, trying to make a big score by winning a bet on the Super Bowl to just get back to ground zero.  Super Bowl betting is as big of a part of the game as the Super Bowl commercials and parties are.

For some it's even worse; they're so far behind that winning on this game will just get them half-way out of the big dark hole they dug themselves.

Billions and billions of dollars are bet on NFL games each year and the Super Bowl is the big kahuna as far as sporting events go.  For these downtrodden gamblers, it's their last chance to get anything back.

I have many friends who are into betting on games throughout the year and know of a few who have to "catch up" in the playoffs every year. Most people think you can make a supplemental income from betting on games.  This is just not a reality.  Statistics show that

Gambling addiction is a very serious issue.  Statistics show that 2.5 million Americans are pathological gamblers and another 3 million are problem gamblers.  Over $500 billion is wagered every year.

According to the American Gaming Commission, $81.5 million was wagered on the Super Bowl in Nevada alone (in 2009), which represented only 1.5% of legal wagers.  If you do the math, hundreds of millions are wagered on the big game.

It's a staggering amount of people who won't be having fun on the day of the Super Bowl.  Instead, they'll be on the brink of self destruction.
