Quotes of the Week Saturday February 25, 2012

We at Philly2Philly introduce our quotes of the week from the world of entertainment, sports, politics, and everything in between. If a high-profile personality sticks their foot in their mouth or says something profound, you can bet your you-know-what, we'll be on it.

Danica Patrick On Her Crash This Week

Indycar /NASCAR driver Danica Patrick had an epic crash this week and addressed it with the media.

“I didn’t want my eyes to pop out of my head...I’ve had plenty of times where I have bruised my thumb, my bones on the wheel,” she said. “I was trained to — when there is no [hope of] saving it — you let go. That is what I did. I don’t see any point in keeping my hands tangled up with anything that is going to be moving.”

Upon crashing her car on the last lap at the Gatorade Duel at Daytona International Speedway, Danica Patrick will use her backup car this weekend at the Daytona 500.

Sacha Baron Cohen Lambasts the Academy in Character as "The Dictator"sacha baron cohen the dictator

The Academy announced they would ban Sacha Baron Cohen from attending Sunday's Academy Award Ceremonies if he showed up as "The Dictator" - the character from his latest film. Cohen decided to release a video, deriding the Academy for their decision, while dressed up as his character Admiral General Aladeen.

"While I applaud the Academy for taking away my right to free speech, I warn you that if you do not lift your sanctions and give me my tickets back by 12 p.m. on Sunday, you will face unimaginable consequences," the comedian shouted.

The Academy has surrendered and said that Sacha Baron Cohen can now come to the 2012 Oscars as "The Dictator" on Sunday. Some argue that this is just a shamless self-promotion for his movie, while others are ripping the Academy for being out of touch. Nonetheless, it's nice to see the Academy play nice and not be so up tight. Either way, the Academy will face criticism for either "selling out" or being out of touch.

Mitt Romney's Response About His "Let Detroit Fail" Comment

While campaigning in Michigan this week, Mitt Romney responded to his statement about letting Detroit fail. When responding to this comment, he managed to dig himself an even deeper hole and looking even further out of touch with working class Americans.

“I love this country. Actually I love this state...This feels good, being back in Michigan. You know, the trees are the right height. The streets are just right. I like the fact that most of the cars I see are Detroit-made automobiles. I drive a Mustang and a Chevy pickup truck. Ann drives a couple of Cadillacs, actually. And I used to have a Dodge truck, so I used to have all three covered," he said in Detroit on Friday.

Yeah, it's pretty clear that Romney isn't afraid to talk about all of his possessions. He just doesn't get it.

Ryan Braun Addresses the Overturn of His 50-Game Suspension

Ryan Braun, the reigning MVP of the Milwaukee Brewers, did the unthinkable this week - winning an appeal of a 50-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. This is a victory for the Brewers organization and fantasy baseball owners around the country. Braun addressed his victory this week.

"At the end of the day the truth prevailed," he said. "I'm a victim of a process that completely broke down and failed in the way that it was applied to me in the case. As players, we're held to a standard of 100% perfection regarding the program, and everybody else associated with that program should be held to the same standard. We're a part of a process where you're 100% guilty until proven innocent. It's the opposite of the American judicial system."

Braun is now considering legal options against Major League Baseball.
