Joe Banner Officially Done as the Philadelphia Eagles' Team President
The Philadelphia Eagles have had a major shakeup in their organization this morning when it was announced that Joe Banner will no longer serve as team president.
Banner has served as the Eagles president since 2001 and will be replaced by Chief Operating Officer Don Smolenski. While many feel this will bring a fundamental shift to the organization, it simply means that Andy Reid and Howie Roseman will have more of a say in the personnel matters. Roseman will now handle contract negotiations and the salary cap. Andy Reid will retain his duties and gain more control.
It has been rumored for quite some time that there was a power struggle in the organization between Joe Banner and Andy Reid. Although the organization has repeatedly denied this claim, where there is smoke - there is fire. There was a report a few months ago which stated that Reid threatened to quit if he wasn't given more power. He of course vehemently denied the report, but Andy Reid would deny any story, which threatens to bring bad press to the organization.
The Eagles claim that Banner was not forced out and that this is all part of a "succession plan."
The team will hold a press conference at 2:30 P.M. Banner, 59, has been with the organization since Jeffrey Lurie purchased the Eagles in 1994. They have been friends since childhood.
Full Jury Selected in the Jerry Sandusky Trial
The full jury of 12 and 4 alternates has been selected for Jerry Sandusky's trial, which will begin on Monday. Many of the jurors have ties to Penn State, which is all but certain when you consider Penn State University is responsible for most of the jobs in the Bellfonte, PA region.
Jerry Sandusky could face up to 500 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Sandusky faces 52 counts of child sexual abuse of 10 boys over a 15-year period.
