Weekly Roundup

The new 2011 Astrological signs are causing quite a stir today. A 13th zodiac sign (Ophiuchus) was added by astronomers who base their change on the "tilt of the Earth." Therefore anyone who was an Aries before is now a Pisces. The catch is - if you were born after 2009. So, if you are just 2 years old you are too young to care. And, if you are old enough to care, then what's to worry about. If you're an Aries you're an Aries. Or, if you're a Cancer, you're a Cancer. Move on and get over it.

Once again the Eagles' season ended without a title, after losing 21-16 to the Packers. There is much uncertainity heading  into the future. Will they sign Michael Vick to a long-term deal or just franchise him? Will Quintin Mikell return? Will they go for Chad Greenaway and offensive line help in free agency? Will Kevin Kolb return or be traded? All of this hinges on the impending lock-out this year. Like many NFL teams, their future is up in the air at this point. Free agency might not begin until July!

President Obama recaptures the 2008 feeling with his Tucson Speech. President Regan had to comfort Americans after the Challenger Disaster. President Clinton had to uplift the nation after the Oklahoma City bombing. President Bush answered the call and uplifted Americans after 9-11. Now President Obama had to answer the call after the Tucson Shootings on Saturday which cliaimed the lives of Judge John Roll, Christina Taylor-Green (Dallas Green's granddaughter), and four other people. And, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords nearly died as well. Obama's Tucson speech was non-partisan and focused on uniting Americans and putting politics aside in a time of tragedy.

Gabrielle Giffords' miraculous recovery continues. Doctors will attempt to get her up in a chair today, which is a remarkable turn-around for the Congresswoman who was shot in the head just 6 days ago.

Jared Loughner showed signs of instability and apparently the administrators at the university he attended are taking some heat. Fact of the matter is there are many people who seem "unstable" who go to many colleges. Maybe this is a wake-up call to monitor anyone who shows signs of potentially going off the deep end.

Sarah Palin's statement where she used the term "blood libel" blew up in her face the other day. She accused liberal critics of "blood libel" by blaming her "Hit List" for Jared Loughner's murderous rampage. Whoops Palin. Blood Libel is a term associated with the suffering of Jews. You probably could have choosed your words more wisely.

Finally, Ted Williams meteroric rise to fame was thwarted by a fight with his daughter this week when police were called to the home. His daughter seems like a loose cannon though. Now, Ted Williams is going to rehab. Looks like his comeback is going to be on hold for a bit.
