Two Runners Die in Philadelphia Marathon

Two runners have died during the 18th annual Philadelphia Marathon yesterday.  Philadelphia Marathon organizers confirmed that one runner, a 21-year-old Asian male, collapsed just after the finish line. And, another runner, a 40-year-old white male, collapsed a quarter-mile from the finish line. Both runners were taken to Hahnemann University hospital and were pronounced dead.

Fire officals said 10 other participants were taken to the hospital by ambulance, but the extent of their injuries is unknown. There were 25,000 particpants and 60,000 spectators in the 18th annual Philadelphia Marathon.

Eagles Squeak By the Giants 17-10

The Eagles did the improbable last night, knocking off the New York Giants 17-10. 610 WIP's Ray Didinger made a good point on his radio show on Saturday by bringing up the fact that the Giants have historically failed at ending the Eagles' season over the years. When the Eagles' backs are against the wall, the Giants for whatever reason can't get the job done. Last year's Miracle at the Meadowlands is a great example.

The Eagles defense completely shut down the Giants running game and passing attack. And, Vince Young did just enough to win, with the kicker being the 18-play drive resulting in a TD to Riley Cooper.

The Eagles' season is still on life support, but nontheless it's a huge win.

Joe Paterno Battling Lung Cancer

Just a week after being fired from Penn State, Joe Paterno learned he has lung cancer. His son Scott told the press that it's a very treatable form of cancer and he should recover just fine.

The 84-year-old coach was fired after a 62-year career at Penn State, following the media firestorm surrounding the Jerry Sandusky child sex scandal.
