Severe Storms on Saturday, Sixers Fall to Heat, and Flyers Defeat Sabres 5-4

Severe Storms Rock Philadelphia and Lancaster Area on Saturday

If you went out on Saturday it wasn't fun in the least. During the afternoon, the area was hit with heavy rain and wind - even blinding conditions at times. Saturday night things really got nasty as a line of severe thunderstorms rolled in from York County. Police in the York area reportedly saw a tornado and then a tornado warning was issued for York and Lancaster Counties. The line of storms rolled in through Berks, Chester, and Montgomery after 9:00 PM. Meanwhile, a mudslide shut down the eastbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway between 9:30 P.M. Drivers were stuck in the traffic jam for hours until it opened back up at 2:00 A.M.

Sixers Fall to Miami Heat After First Quarter Surge

The Sixers came out like gangbusters against the Heat yesterday as they raced to a double digit lead in the first quarter. But, did you really expect them to hold onto a double digit lead? The Heat settled down and raced to a 16-point lead in the 3rd quarter - then the Sixers began to mount a comeback. They came within one point before Dywane Wade and the Heat pulled away to secure a 97-89 victory in Game One. The key to this game was free throws. The Heat had 39 free throws to the Sixers' 15. Many people are pulling for the Sixers nationwide to knock off the NBA's answer to the New York Yankees. Hate to say it, but the Sixers won't do it. They limped into the playoffs and will be lucky to win one or two games in this series.

Flyers Hold On Against Sabres for 5-4 Win

We can all relax now folks, the Flyers got past the first hurdle and secured their first win in the playoffs. After yanking "Bob" in the first period (yielded 3 goals in 7 shots) it seemed like things stabilized for the Orange and Black. Brian Boucher surrendered just one goal in 21 shots and the Flyers hung on for the 5-4 victory. The Flyers now head to Buffalo and will face off against them at 7:00 Monday night.
