Memorial Day Weekend 2011 Is Here...Time For the Jersey Shore

It's finally time for the start of summer as Memorial Day weekend has arrived. And, judging by the temperatures over the past few days in the Greater Philadelphia area, this is going to be a long, hot summer. Looking for something to do down at the jersey shore this Memorial Day weekend? Look no further than Veronica Dudo's Jersey Shore Memorial Day Weekend Events breakdown.

And, if you're looking to save some cash then get just enough gas to get you into Jersey and then fill up once you get over the border. Gas is roughly 20-25 cents cheaper in Jersey than in PA. Check out this resource for New Jersey gas prices before you leave for this Memorial Day weekend.

Heading to Wildwood this weekend? If so, check out the newest ride at Morey's Piers called "It."

'Kung Fu Panda 2' Has Stiff Competition In 'The Hangover 2'

Kung Fu Panda 2 would normally be a shoe-in for top dog on any weekend not for The Hangover 2. Hangover 2 already made it past it's first hurdle when a lawsuit (over Ed Helms' face tattoo) was thrown out by a judge earlier this week, which would have prevented it's release on Thursday. And, Hangover 2 has a 1-day head start, which will help in a huge way. Keep in mind, the first Hangover film grossed over $275 million while Kung Fu Panda's first film grossed $215 million back in 2008. Added to that, Hangover 2 earned over $30 million in just it's first day and is on pace to earn over $100 million this weekend. Look for Hangover 2 to take the prize this holiday weekend.

Jared Loughner Is Too Crazy To Stand Trial...Deemed Mentally "Incompetent" By Judge

Thanks to the 14th Amendment, which protects "insane" people from standing trial - Jared Loughner may be spared from life in prison or being executed. In fact, Jared Loughner may never face trial and spend the rest of his life in a mental institution if he's never deemed fit to stand trial.

On Wednesday, a Federal Judge declared that Jared Lee Loughner is mentally incompetent to stand trial and sent him back to the mental facility for treatment. Loughner's legal team will most likely play the insanity card, but the clear fact is that Loughner knew very well what he was doing. For someone to commit the executions of multiple people and to attempt to assassinate a politican knows fully well what they're doing. Bleeding heart liberals will argue that Loughner is insane and unfit to be tried, but he deserves to be executed for murdering six people and attempting to assassinate Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. There is a possibility that he can be drugged to the point where he's deemed fit to stand trial, which would be right thing to do for the victims and their families.

President Obama Extends The Patriot Act With Presidential Autopen

This comes as little surprise, but President Obama extended The Patriot Act last night for another 4 years. For the first time in history a bill was signed into law by a Presidential autopen since Obama is overseas and can't sign a bill in person. Of course some Republicans like Tom Graves are complaining about his use of the autopen to sign legislation, which could set a dangerous precedent. But these same Republicans would be ripping Obama if he failed to extend the Patriot Act, which was set to expire at midnight last night.

Phillies Are On a Roll Since Chase Utley's Return

The Phillies are now 3-1 since Chase Utley has returned. And, he hit his first homerun of the season yesterday during their series-clinching win over the Reds at The Bank. The Phillies now possess the best record in the NL with a 31-19 record. While Utley hasn't started off like a house on fire, the energy he has brought to the team is quite telling. Their 19-inning epic victory the other night could prove to be the point where the Phillies begin their assault on the National League. They now have a soft schedule and have a shot to build a substantial lead in the NL East.
