Dangerous Heat Wave Hits Philadelphia Area

The worst heat wave to grip the nation in years has arrived in Philly. We'll be talking about the "2011 Heat Wave" for years as it has engulfed nearly the entire country.

And, it won't be leaving the Philly area anytime soon. Temps are expected to soar into the mid-90's today and up around 100 from Thursday through Saturday. We aren't expected to see much relief in the form of late-afternoon thunderstorms either - at least not today.

So far 13 people have died as a result of this dangerous heat wave.

Society Hill Attacker Identified

Police have identified the man behind the recent string of attacks upon women in the Society Hill section of Philadelphia. Career criminal Willie Wyche, who was recently released from prison is the apparent man behind the attacks where women have been strangled and robbed.

Since June 25, 5 women have been robbed in the renown Old City Philadelphia neighborhood.

Phillies Knock Off Cubs in Bottom of 9th

Cliff Lee had yet another great start last night, but his effort seemed like it was squandered due to the lack of offense. Through the first 8 innings, the Phillies had zero offense, but Chase Utley came up huge with a game-tying hit to make it 2-2. And, Michael Martinez once again stepped up for the Phillies with an RBI double in the 9th to put the Phillies ahead 4-2. The rubber match takes place today at 2:20 P.M. as Vance Worley takes the hill.

Don't miss Joe Vallee and Matt Babiarz's column today where they debate whether the Phillies should go after Carlos Beltran or improve the bullpen before the trade deadline!
