No Carlos Beltran For the Phillies

The Phillies' World Series chances took a small hit yesterday (they are still the best team in the majors) when the Mets traded Carlos Beltran to the San Francisco Giants. Unlike many, I didn't expect the Mets to trade him to the Phillies. And, why would they? The Mets are the Phillies' biggest rival in the NL East. Now, the Giants are their biggest rival and threat in the NL.

Beltran goes to a Giants team, which needed a serious offensive boost. The Giants ranked 28th in the majors with just 3.6 runs scored per game.

Now, the Phillies get to face Beltran tonight in the rubber match of this three-game series.

No Albert Haynesworth for the Eagles...Haynesworth Traded to Patriots

Keeping with the theme of disappointing trades, lets turn to Albert Haynesworth. The Eagles won't be getting Albert Haynesworth. The Redskins deliberately wanted to keep him from going to Philly so they opted to trade him to New England instead for practically nothing.

The Redskins will send the former Pro Bowl defensive tackle to New England for a 5th round pick in 2013.

This one you can't really pin on Eagles management. The Redskins knew if they cut him, he'd be an Eagle within hours. It hurts to see the Eagles lose out on a talent like this though. The Eagles need a devastating force in the middle of their defensive line. Brodrick Bunkley and Mike Patterson are mediocre at best. Haynesworth has the talent to be the best in the game and would have played hard for incoming defensive line coach Jim Washburn.

Kevin Kolb is Still With the Eagles...For Now

The highly-anticipated trade of Eagles backup QB Kevin Kolb is expected to be completed today. The trade was reported by Adam Caplan on 97.5 the Fanatic. The Eagles will receive cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie from Arizona (as expected) and an unspecified draft pick.

Really no surprise here. Everyone and their mother knew that Kolb and Cromartie would be swapped. Now it's just a matter of what pick the Eagles receive in return.
