Phillies Avoid Sweep Behind Roy Halladay's Shutout

Roy Halladay has had a typical dominant season. But, one thing has been eluding him - a complete game shutout. Unlike Cliff Lee, who has six shutouts under his belt this season, Halladay had not recorded one all season until yesterday afternoon.

The result was a 1-0 Phillies victory as they avoided a sweep at the hands of the worst team in the majors and their first 4-game losing streak since June.

The Phillies also clinched a playoff spot with yesterday's win. They will take on the Marlins in a doubleheader today. These are the makeup games which had to be nixed due to Hurricane Irene.

Iran Won't Release Hikers Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer

Despite optimism earlier this week that Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer would be released from prison in Iran, the courts have publicly stated they will not be released.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told NBC's Ann Curry that they would be released prior to his visit to New York next week. However, the courts have come and said he does not have the authority to free them.

The move by Iranian court officials is a clear attempt to embarrass and humiliate him as he is losing credibility within his own country.

On the other hand, the lawyer for Fattal and Bauer has paperwork ready to get them freed on bail. He said he doesn't expect judges to act on it until Saturday at the earliest.

Fattal and Bauer were convicted and sentenced to eight years in prison for spying.

Teens Attack a Couple and Rape Woman While Boyfriend Watches

It seems that as each week goes by there is another atrocious story we hear or read about in Philly. This time a couple was walking home Tuesday night in Southwest Philly when they were approaced by a pair of thugs. One of them was younger (maybe 13 years old) and toting a gun. They two degenerates proceeded to rob the couple and take them behind a building.

The older of the two criminals proceeded to rape the woman while holding a gun to her boyfriend's head.

And, for those of you who are against the death penalty just remember this story. This is a clear cut case whey the death penalty is absolutely necessary and justified.
