Wikipedia Blackout on Wednesday: To Protest SOPA and PIPA Legislation

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales announced that Wikipedia will have a blackout on Wednesday in response to SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (Protect IP Act) - two internet bills being proposed in Congress, which could cause the demise of the internet as we know it.

Reddit.com will follow suit and blackout their site tomorrow as well.

Texas Republican Congressman Lamar Smith introduced the bill along with a bipartisan group of 12 co-sponsors. The bill is designed to stop websites from stealing copyrights, but there is a lot of evidence that it could require your Internet provider to block websites that are involved in digital file sharing.

And search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing could be stopped from linking to them, which goes against the idea of an open Internet according to sites like Wikipedia and Reddit.

President Barack Obama has already opposed the legislation in it's current form.

The blackout will begin at midnight tonight and last for 24 hours.

Sixers Defeat Bucks in Martin Luther King Jr. Day Game

The Sixers won their 9th game in 10 games, defeating the Bucks 94-82 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Jrue Holiday led the way with 24 points on 11 of 17 shooting.

The Sixers remain undefeated at home and with a 10-3 record, they have the second best record in the Eastern Conference.
