Father's Day 2012, Mitt Romney Wimps Out By Avoiding Ed Rendell and Democrats, and Medical Waste Washes Up on Jersey Shore

The Omelette Sunday June 17, 2012 -  Father's Day

Father's Day 2012 is Here

Father's Day is here!  Just what is the origin of Father's Day? In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge publicly supported a national Father's Day, and in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson declared it a national holiday. Finally in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a permanent national Father's Day into law, to be observed on the third Sunday in June.

Don't miss Christine Tarlecki's article on Sullivan's Steakhouse - a great place to celebrate this Father's Day.

Happy Father's Day to all of you fathers out there!

Mitt Romney Avoids Confrontation With Ed Rendell and Democratic Protests

Mitt Romney was campaigning in the area yesterday. He was originally scheduled to appear at a Wawa in Quakertown, but bailed out when he and his staff learned that they would be met by former Governor Ed Rendell and many protestors. Romney wimped out and went to another Wawa where he went for a cheesey photo opp, by purchasing a meatball sub.

When I saw this on TV, I thought it was one of the phoniest displays I've ever seen out of a politician. It ranked up there with John Kerry's phony photo opp, where he ordered a cheesesteak with swiss cheese during his campaign. Does anyone believe this mega-rich, out-of-touch, old guy ever goes to a convenience store to buy a meatball sub? If anyone is buying that nonsense then they need to get a reality check.

On a final note, for Romney to wimp out on a confrontation with Rendell and the Democrats shows that he lacks the cajones needed for the Oval Office. Something tells me Chris Christie would have gone head-to-head with Rendell and anyone who would challenge him. Ed Rendell called out Romney and said he "wussed out."

Medical Waste Washes Up on Long Beach Island in Jersey

Long Beach Island was shut down yesterday when it was discovered that trash was washing up along the beaches. But, it wasn't just paper cups or beach accessories washing up. Medical waste like syringes were found on the beaches of LBI. A police officer was carrying a red hazardous waste canister full of syringes.

The beaches are still closed as of this morning. Crews are out there working to get the beaches cleaned up and ensuring the water is free of harmful debris.
