Brett Favre's Jenn Sterger Controversy Overshadowed By Avulsion Fracture and SNL Skit
The Brett Favre - Jenn Sterger controversy is finally being bumped from the Brett Favre headlines. All it took was an injury to his ankle which might keep him out and a Saturday Night Live skit, which was the best bit on SNL so far this year.
First off, with regards to the injury, he has a stress fracture and another called an avulsion fracture, which is an injury to the bone in the area where a tendon or ligament attaches to the skeleton. In sports we have been introduced to a plethora of new sports injury terms over the years such as the Lisfranc sprain, which was unheard of 15 years ago. Now, the avulsion fracture is making headlines. Favre has played with many injuries before, but Favre's avulsion fracture and stress fracture injuries may be the ones which will end his streak of 291 straight starts dating back to 1992.
Then we have the Brett Favre Saturday Night Live skit, which parodied one of his Wrangler commercials. Jason Sudekis portrayed the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer in the skit. And, the catch was - these jeans were called the "Open Fly" jeans, with a hole in the crotch. Sudekis' Brett Favre character had his "junk" blurred out in the commercial, but you get the idea. Favre's new Wrangler pants made light of the Brett Favre - Jenn Sterger saga.
And, voila SNL has themselves one hell of a bit, which will go down as their best of the season so far.
Favre has got to be kicking himself now for not only coming out of retirement to play this year, but un-retiring to play for the Jets. Had he stayed in retirement he never would have joined the Jets and he wouldn't have started this whole mess with Jenn Sterger.
This will go down as one of the biggest controversies in sports history, but one which could have easily been avoided.
