Bill Maher's Tim Tebow Remarks: HBO Shouldn't Be Boycotted
HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher" host Bill Maher is facing hell, fire, and brimstone for some nasty comments he made about Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow on Christmas Eve.
After the Broncos lost to the Broncos, Bill Maher tweeted "Wow, Jesus just f----- #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler ‘Hey, Buffalo’s killing them’”
Naturally some remarks like this are going to piss a lot of people off - not just Broncos fans or Tim Tebow fans for that matter.
Bill Maher has made no bones about his distaste for organized religion over the years. And, that's what makes our country so great. Bill Maher has a platform on "Real Time" to make such remarks and religious people can take to the online forums to counter his remarks.
Does this mean people should boycott HBO? That is rather extreme. You may not agree with Bill Maher's remarks on Tim Tebow, but be careful what you wish for. If we continue to run people out of show business for making unpopular comments then someday an individual may not have that freedom to express viewpoints from the other side.
It's a two-way street in this country. Free speech may not be popular, but it's as much a part of the American fabric as gun rights or the right to vote.
If you don't like what Bill Maher said then take to the online forum. Make your voice heard on blogs, Facebook, and Twitter. Your voices will be heard loud and clear.
