It's Punxsutawney Phil People: Not Punksatony Phil or Puxatony Phil

It's Groundog Day 2011 and the day of judgement as to whether or not we'll endure a long winter or see it cut short. Punxsutawney Phil didn't see his shadow today, which portends a short winter. That's debatable when you consider the fact that winter basically began in the beginning of December in the Philadelphia area. The first week of December was bitter cold and we are still mired in the deep, dark depths of winter today after having endured an ice storm last night.

Moving along, it never ceases to amaze me the sorry state of affairs with regard to literacy in our country. There's a good reason why the United States continues to fall in the world education rankings and lags behind many other industrialized nations in English and Math. And, it's not because our citizens are less intelligent, but because many of our young people are lazy.

While I can excuse people for screwing up the spelling of "Punxsutawney" I cannot excuse people for being so lazy that they don't even bother to look up the spelling.

Thus, we have as some of our top google search trends today: Punksatony Phil and Puxatony Phil. There are hundreds of thousands of people who are googling these two phrases in hopes of finding out whether PUNXSUTAWNEY Phil saw his shadow or not. Daily Postal commented on the usage of "Punksatony Phil" and "Puxatony Phil", but it's clear they're mispellings.
