The Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton has been dominating the headlines in the U.S. for months. Ever since they announced their engagement in November, this wedding has been hyped up like no other wedding in recent history.  The Royal Wedding, which will take place on April 29th, is reportedly going to cost £20m or roughly $34.5 million dollars.

There is constant coverage of the Royal Wedding on E!, The Today Show, CNN, and even through the AP.  In fact, CNN is planning on sending 400 reporters, cameramen, and crew to cover Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding. Media coverage goes hand-in-hand with demand. Where there's huge interest, the media supplies the content. Newspapers, TV networks, and websites know this and are feeding Americans' appetites.

I'm probably not alone when I ask myself "Why are Americans so fascinated about a wedding involving people who aren’t even Americans."

There is a website devoted to The Royal Wedding called theroyalweddingwilliamkate.com, which serves as a nexus of news surrounding Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding. Everything from their first visit to Ireland together to their joint engagement photos are featured on the site.

And, E! set up shop with a William and Kate Royal Wedding site the second the engagement announcement was made.

Even AOL also has a site devoted to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding news.

And, what are the reasons for America’s fascination? One has to do with our love of fantasy lifestyles. The Royal Family embodies the ultimate dream lifestyle and this wedding is the be-all, end-all for amazing weddings.

Another reason is the wedding industry. Weddings are huge. Not just planning your own, but following the weddings of other people. I know this personally as I'm going to tie the knot in October. My fiance has opened my eyes to the world of wedding content. Wedding blogs from Wedding Bee, Off Beat Bride, and A Practical Wedding provide wedding enthusiasts with a bevy of rich, wedding-related content.  Say Yes to the Dress is one of the most popular and highest-rated shows on TLC for good reason. The wedding dress is the center of attention of the ceremony and can make or break a wedding.

Another factor involves Mrs. Windsor-to-be Kate Middleton who is likeable, elegant, and charming. She doesn’t come from royalty, but is truly a natural.

On April 29th Westminster Abbey will feature the most highly anticipated wedding in history, with an estimated 1 billion people watching throughout the world. This would make it the most highly-viewed TV broadcast since the funeral of Pope John Paul II.

The Royal Wedding features a plethora of subplots and stories. It’s both a reality wedding show and a soap opera rolled into one. Heck, it even features a snub list on top of the actual guest list!

And, probably the #1 reason why The Royal Wedding has captivated the hearts and minds of so many Americans entails the “P” word. I’m talking about a perfect wedding. It is every woman’s dream to have a perfect wedding. The Royal Wedding is the epitome of perfection, and will take place on the biggest stage for billions to see.
