Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Wedding: A Vulgar Display of Wealth

Yesterday Kim Kardashian's over-indulgent wedding finally took place, where she married NBA player Kris Humphries. This wedding was as much of an over-hyped media story as it was an episode of American gluttony in it's most disgusting form. Truly this is an insult to any intelligent, hard-working and struggling American today. And, we can thank the media for creating this animal.

The Kim Kardashian wedding rang up a $10 million bill, which for many rich Americans - is their entire life savings. Most average Americans won't amass $1 million in their entire lifetimes let alone $10 million, which was pissed away on one expensive day.

We heard about the guest list, which included Lindsay Lohan, Demi Lovato, Serena and Venus Williams. And, oh yeah Ryan Seacrest was a guest too. I wonder if E! had something to do with that - considering they provided "exclusive coverage." I have to give Donald Trump props for choosing to play golf instead of going to this gluttonous affair.

We heard all of the ridiculous stories about this Kim Kardashian wedding, which is to the wedding industry what Howard Hughes' "spruce goose" flying boat was to the industrial age. The absurdity began when it was announced that Kris Humphries purchased a $2 million 20.5 carat diamond engagement ring.

Then there was the wedding cake, which rang up a whopping $20,000 bill.

Reports surfaced that she was spending thousands of dollars on silverware for this lavish wedding. One could only imagine how much her wedding dress (designed by Vera Wang) is valued at.

I'm not trying to sound like a commie here, but when we have a 9.1% unemployment rate (and an "undermployment" rate of 17%) it's a piss-poor idea for a wealthy public figure like Kim Kardashian to rub our noses in her obvious wealth.

Added to that, it is a slap in the face to working people in this country for Kim Kardashian to ask her fans to contribute to this wedding. I am appalled that her fans were stupid enough to actually buy things on her wedding registry.

The Kardashian family's wealth is well-documented. Her father Robert Kardashian was a powerful attorney (one of O.J. Simpson's attorneys) who amassed a net worth between $30 and $100 million before he passed away. And, Kim Kardashian herself is worth an estimated $35 million.

Despite the Daily Mail's claims that her wedding might not cost "her" anything, the entire affair is a lavish, vulgar display of wealth. And, it's a slap in the face to every unemployed, underemployed, and struggling American today.

For the media to hype up this gluttonous affair makes them equally guilty. Some in the media have called this "America's Royal Wedding."

I prefer to say it's America's Royal Disgrace.
