Is Rick Santorum's Iowa Caucus Surge Worth the Media Attention?

The wait is over for the Iowa Caucuses, which mark the beginning of the long road to November's 2012 Presidential Election.

With Mitt Romney presumed to be the favorite to win the Republican nomination and Ron Paul the favorite to win the Iowa Caucuses an underdog is charging fast; Rick Santorum.

Santorum, was a former PA Senator and loved by the religious right and pro-business Republicans. To many he was a shill for big Pharma and did practically nothing during his six years as PA Senator.

Santorum is getting a lot of press over the past week since he "could" win today's Iowa Caucuses.

In the grand scheme of things it means literally nothing. For his camp it would be a huge victory when you consider that Santorum was an afterthought months ago when Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Michele Bachmann, and Newt Gingrich were ahead of him.

Herman Cain's political career went up in smoke faster than the Philadelphia Eagles' playoff hopes, while Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann were exposed for their constant gaffes. And, Gingrich is being seen as yet another career politician and has faded in recent weeks over his checkered political past and marital issues.

Thus, Santorum has surged and is in the discussion for being a possible nominee. Just months ago it seemed like it would take a miracle for Santorum to remain in the race. Now can Rick Santorum pull off the unthinkable and win in the Iowa Cacususes?

Santorum seems to think so and if he wins Iowa, this won't be the last you hear of him.
