Rod Blagojevich Joins a Long List of Governors Who Went to Prison

Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich stepped off a plane in Colorado yesterday and to began the next stage of his life - a 14-year prison sentence.

When the former Governor was sentenced to prison I thought to myself "which U.S. Governors served time in prison?" It can't really be that many can it?Turns out that it's a long list.

Here is a list of some recent former Governors who went to prison.

John G. Rowland: former Connecticut Governor sentenced to 10 months in 2003

George Ryan: former Illinois Governor is currently in prison for 6 1/2 years.

Otto Kerner: former Illinois Governor who served less than a year in the 1970's

Dan Walker: former Illinois Governor who served 1 1/2 years in the 1980's

Edwin Edwards: former Louisiana Governor who was sentenced to 10 years in 2001

Don Siegelman: former Alabama Governor currently appealing a 7-year prison sentence

As you can see, he's hardly the first Governor to serve prison time. Heck, he's not even the first Governor from the state of Illinois to receive a prison sentence!  In fact, Blagojevich becomes the fourth former Governor from Illinois to go to jail in the past 40 years.

Now, Rod Blagojevich becomes the latest Governor to join this infamous list.
