Frank LeMaster Previews the Eagles vs. Giants

"Bookmark

The New York Giants roll into town this weekend coming off losses to the Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints, Former Eagles Linebacker Frank LeMasterwhich could spell trouble for the inconsistent Eagles.  The 4-2 Eagles have been very lucky with a soft early-season schedule beating the Chiefs, Buccaneers, Redskins and the Panthers who only have 5 wins combined. The Eagles 2 losses came in an embarrassing loss to the Raiders and they were soundly beaten by the Saints who are the only legitimate playoff contender the Eagles have played to date.

The Giants offense, led by Eli Manning, Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw and Steve Smith – were very effective in the first 5 games but have sputtered in their two straight losses to Cardinals and Saints. The two characteristics the Eagles and Giants have in common is that their defenses have been the winning factor in most of the games. The Eagles are 1st in the NFL in turnovers with 18 takeaways and the Giants are 1st in overall defense even though they have given up 72 points in the last 8 quarters. Both are very aggressive blitzing defenses and I believe that the team that has the most success in pressuring the opposing quarterback will win the game.

Look for Brian Westbrook to be out this week recovering from his concussion and Bradshaw’s running ability will be hampered due a cracked bone in his foot, which means that Brandon Jacobs will take a lot of running snaps this week which does not bode well for the Eagles. Jacobs has had a lot of success in the past against the Eagles and has been unstoppable in some games.

In order for the Eagles to have a chance to win, the Eagles offense will have to have a great day with no penalties and minimum turnovers and keep the score close. Both teams have very aggressive blitzing defenses and I believe that the team that has the most success in pressuring the opposing quarterback will win the game.
