Will Hank Baskett Be a Catch for the Colts?

When Hank Baskett was an undrafted free agent wide receiver traded to our Eagles from the Minnesota Vikings for Billy McMullen in 2006, he captured the heart and souls of Eagles fans everywhere. After flying under the radar at the University of New Mexico, Baskett showed he had the type of “heart” that Philadelphia sport fans crave for in their hero’s. Unfortunately, heart and soul and knowledge of Andy Reid’s “Telephone-book” type playbook are not enough to keep a job in the City of Brotherly Love.

While he has never been a star and perhaps his greatest claim to fame is his marriage to “The Girls Next Door” star Kendra Wilkinson, Baskett was a difference maker in Philadelphia. In 2007 he was voted the Eagles Special Teams Player of the Year and despite his knack to make clutch catches, Baskett was released on September 15th due make room for another Eagles player you may have heard of named Michael Vick.

With Vick grabbing the headlines in Philly, Baskett grabbed the classifieds and found a new gig with the Indianapolis Colts when their second-year receiver Anthony Gonzalez suffered a knee injury and while he is new to the Colts system, it appears Baskett will get some playing time in Indy.

Baskett is a unique talent and a very hard worker with a colorful story. An undrafted free agent who became a special teams maven and is married to a Playboy Playmate make Baskett one of the more interesting players in recent history but amidst the glitz and glare is a player who might end up being a star in he becomes a favorite target of Peyton Manning.

We are all wishing Hank Baskett well. And while he was a fan favorite, there is some concern that he may be the catch that got away.
