The Morning After: Eagles Fall To Titans

"Bookmark

Morning campers,

I will dispense with any "punny" headlines and keep the humor to a minimum

because, well... damn it, I don't feel like laughing right now and I'm guessing most of you don't, either...

Before I get to the Birds debacle, please allow me a few minutes to vent and rant on the Phillies... I feel it will be very cathartic for me, thank you.

Let's just go rapid fire, shall we?

Can't win if you don't hit; seems pretty simple to me

In case you missed it, this is what Jonathan Sanchez had to say about  the whole "Utley incident:"

"If you are professional you don't do that," Sanchez said. "You just take your base and let me pitch. He threw the ball back to me. That's not professional."

'Not professional?' Are you kidding me, Jonny? If I'm Chase Utley, I go all Moe Green & Billy Bats on his ass after reaching first base: "I'm Chase Utley... I've been playing ball and winning World Series' while you were still in diapers. I'm a world fu$%ing champion...now get your shine box"

Shane Victorino... love the guy but seriously? You left how many on base yesterday?

Heard a rumor started by none other than MQ (the man is a true sports genius) that has the Phils trading Victorino for a case of Hawaiian Punch and 3 Don Ho records to be named later...then they sign Werth and move him to center...Probably means Dom Brown in RF... love it, love it, love it... love Victorino but it's time to move on...

Ryan Howard...

To me it was the perfect ending, a microcosm if you will... Here's our #1 power hitter, arguably the #1 power hitter and RBI producer in all of baseball over the last X years and he can't even bring himself to swing the bat...

1. The man had as many RBIs in the playoffs as you & I did... zero... that is really hard to do

2. Clearly not all the big man's fault but... with the fat check comes some heavy responsibility and you, Chase and J Roll are the leaders of this team & you all collectively had plenty of chances to do something and... cue the Robert DeNiro clip.....YOU BLEW IT!!!

-Before these playoffs lots of journos were throwing out the D word at free will... Dynasty is a very powerful word when it comes to sports and should be used in extreme situations only... as in say a team actually earns the moniker in the first place

-The cynic in me says the window is closing; they are all getting older and I openly wonder if '08 was their pinnacle and we are witnessing the ride back down the other side of the mountain...

-The realist in me says we have a full year of H2O and assuming we can't resign Jayson Werth, we make a run at Carl Crawford or someone as close as possible and we shore up the bullpen... there's no reason we cannot be back in the Fall Classic next year...

-If there is ANY saving grace that can come from the Phils untimely exit it's the fact that we will not be (unless you still plan on watching) subjected to incessant hyperbole of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver... and yes, Joe Buck did refer to him as "the great Cody Ross" at one point... and yes, I nearly put my size 12's threw my Sony...

Ok, so no more bleeding red until next year... it's back to bleeding green. I will admit it was tough to focus and quite frankly care about the Eagles game yesterday... and coming from me, that says a lot.

But we are still fans and they are still the Eagles... so let's get to getting.

Gonna stay rapid fire cause my ADD's kicking in and I don't know if I can stay focused long enough to write actual full and coherent sentences...

-Kevin Kolb, unless Mike Vick gets hurt again, very well have played his game as the Eagles QB, this year that is...

And it's not even all his fault... the Eagles OL is offensive for sure... and Kolb simply cannot make the plays that this OL forces a QB to make...

-Quinton Mikell had himself a nice game recording a sack, forced fumble and an interception...

Course he and the rest of secondary are STILL out on the field looking for Kenny Britt, but hey, let's not nitpick...image

April Showers... a very solid game for the Special Teams unit right up until alas poor Jorrick (Calvin) fumbled a somewhat important punt... the Eagles were down 8, one possession, when he fumbled a punt, essentially ending the game...

"Down the Dial" - instead of the Eagles you could have been watching Mee-Shee: The Water Giant. Yes that is the actual title of the film which starred Bruce Greenwood and according to IMDB is about... A New York City oil company troubleshooter is brought to a remote B.C. lake to look for some lost machinery. Cancelling a trip to Disney World with his son, he decides to bring the boy along. They both end up experiencing more excitement than Mickey could ever conjure in Orlando, when they meet up with bad guys and a legendary creature.

There's a joke in here somewhere but as I said earlier, this is no time for levity...

How long before Eagles's fans refer to Chad Hall as Rudy?

-The Eagles committed 10 penalties yesterday... that's it, you can draw your own conclusions

-Kerry Collins... You're kidding, right? Once again the Eagles display their special penchant for making a very ordinary NFL quarterback look like the second coming...

Of course it helps to be throwing into a secondary manned by the likes of folks like Ellis Hobbs who brought back very traumatic memories for all Eagles fans as we all had visions of Izel "Toast" Jenkins dancing in our heads... at least I did

-What exactly was the point of that last throw, which ultimately led to the Titans last TD?

Seriously, you're down two possessions, you have very little time left on the clock; the only thing that can come from this is an injury or an aforementioned TD by the defense. But we know Andy, we know... it's your responsibility and you're going to get that looked at.

That's all I got and quite frankly, I think that's more than enough...

We're all still bummed about the Phils... I know my man Joe Vallee is and probably will be for some time.

Til next time and as always...

Time's yours. Food's mine.
