DeMarco Murray Will Be Huge Challenge for Eagles This Sunday

The Eagles are 11-0 coming off bye weeks under Andy Reid. There are many trends in the NFL which don't hold much weight, but this is a pretty telling trend. However, there is a good chance that this trend could come to an end if the Eagles' rushing defense doesn't put up a fight this week.

Sunday night the Eagles take on the Cowboys at the Linc. And, their biggest foe will not be Miles Austin or Jason Witten. Rather it will be rookie DeMarco Murray who blew up against the St. Louis Rams yesterday.

In St. Louis an NFL star was born yesterday when Murray torched the Rams for 253 yards on 25 carries, including a 91-yard touchdown on the first play of the game. Murray's 253 yards are a Cowboys record. Thus in his first game with substantial carries he has eclipsed such Cowboys greats as Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett for a record-setting rushing game in the regular season.

Smith previously held the record of 237 yards in 1993 when he lit up the Eagles on that rainy Halloween game. I still remember this nightmare like yesterday.

Murray was a third-string running back heading into yesterday's contest and is now going to be the hottest name in fantasy leagues. The odds are he's no longer available in your league as of this writing.

Not only was Murray a third-stringer, but Tashard Choice was slated to get the bulk of the work against the Rams. After that fateful 91-yard TD, the odds are that Murray will vault into the featured back role for the Cowboys. Felix Jones has been nothing short of mediocre in his career and injury-prone, while Tashard Choice is just a body.

The Eagles face a brutal test this Sunday night for sure. I'm not trying to come off like the voice of doom, but we have seen the writing on the wall all year long that this Eagles linebacking crew is dreadful. The passing defense hasn't exactly been stellar either. Aside from performances against the hapless Rams and fading Redskins, they have been a disaster.

Their rushing defense currently ranks 23rd in the NFL. While, Murray put up 253 yards against a putrid Rams rushing defense (ranked last in the NFL) - it's not out of the question to assume DeMarco Murray could repeat this performance against the Eagles.
