Good Family Fun Always a Rule at Philadelphia Soul Games

"Bookmark

The Philadelphia Soul have finally come home to Philadelphia to play on their home turf.  After four straight road games, and the first time in over 1000 days, the Soul took the field.

Although the home opener against the Tampa Bay Storm ended in a 51-48 loss, the fans went crazy with excitement to see their 2008 Arena Football Champions back on the field.

Philly fans love their sports teams, and this game was no exception. The season is just getting started with eight more games lined up.

After the games, the field is always a hotbed of activity as the players go to see the fans and sign autographs, along with pictures with the Soulmates Dance Team and to mingle and chat with fans. I caught up with #23, Dejuan Alfonzo, to get his thoughts on playing at home again:

“It always feels good to play at home," said Alfonzo. "We try to win all home games, but it’s tough. We lost three weeks in a row, but now we just gear up for the next game!”

Melissa Demyan, Director Admin/ Community Relations, said that 64,000 tickets have been sold since the Soul has been around. The Soul are very active in working with the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, often participating in big/little events.

“This is a great program, getting people to join up and become a big brother or big sister," said Demyan. "The Soul supports it’s community and makes it fun as with Junior Soulmates, who are local girls ages 8-18 who get to perform at a few shows each season. The Junior Soulmates have been performing since the beginning. They are run by Lou Jacobs and they have a great turnout with those girls every single year. They get to come out and perform a couple times during the season.”

“It was highly anticipated to be back on the field after the hiatus! We’ve been gone for the past two seasons, and the first few games have been on the road. So much has been building up to get the team back on the home field so everyone was really pumped up! The loss was hard, because we see how hard everybody works- the players, coaches, staff. We really excited to get back on the field. It’s not the end of the season, we’re just starting, and the Soul just keeps pushing forward!”

The Philadelphia Soul Arena Football games are family events- highly recommended, affordable family fun!

The next home game is against the Jacksonville Sharks on Friday, May 6 at 7:05 pm. Additional games are Friday May 13 with the Georgia Force, Friday May 27 with the New Orleans VooDoo Friday June 3 with the Milwaukee Mustangs, and Friday June 17 with the Tulsa Talons, among others.
